I honestly don't know what kosher means.
Where the food is blessed by a rabbi. The word kosher is Hebrew for "fit" or "appropriate" and describes a food that is suitable for a Jew to eat.
Hope that helped you Randall.

So.......one person tells another person what they are allowed (or not allowed) to eat.

Makes perfect sense.

As long as someone isn't trying to blow me up in the name of a little god, or harm my people, or another people group just because they are different from we, I'm Kosher with it.

Who Am I to Criticize?

You & I are both more Libertarian than we have admitted.

I'm not criticizing. A bit confused about who gets to make these rules......and of course, why.

I'm probably more open minded about different religions than anyone in the room in most cases.

There are only two things I'm sure of:

1: There is a God.

2: I'm not Him.

I'm also not Libertarian. Nor am I Republican. Nor am I a Liberal.

Notice that I did capitalize all of these things out of respect for each of them though.

That is what we are missing.........respect for each other's belief system.

Those Guidelines for what is Kosher have been in place for a few Millenia: I'm not going to debate their validity.

I am completely in accord & hold the same #1 & #2.

I guess I incorrectly took "Makes Perfect Sense" as cynicism, & if that wasn't the intent, I Sincerely Apologize.

I Agree, What we lack is a general Respect for Each Other.

I believe We also tend, as a group, to forget that the 1st Amendment doesn't stop where our feelers start, nor do the repercussions of exercising that said Amendment equal the perceived Right, or Wrongness of what we say.

Merely sarcasm........stemming from my ignorance about the subject.

And that's why we will always be good friends. Your good heart is why you have that belief.

Is that like: You can say that, but if someone mashes your mouth for doing so, don't be whining about it? :D

Yes. That is the beginning of some of it, but the particulars are much more detailed.
For meat stuffs, Fur(with cloven hoof), feathers, and scales(this rules out crustaceans, non scaled fish). Meat and dairy aren't to be consumed in the same meal, nor served on the same set of dishes. Kosher for Pesach(Passover) delves into not partaking of leavened products during the week commemorating Passover, and the subsequent escape from the bonds 9f slavery in Egypt.

Old Testament Laws, and by Old Testament I mean the first five books, also known as the First Five Books of Moses, which comprises the entirety of the Torah.

Ultimately it all boils down to choice, or agency. My father grew up this way(Orthodox), I did not.

This latest back and forth serves as a good reminder, as to why @hseII and @Mastermind are two of my really good friends.

We're not making it this year.
Dad went into surgery last Thursday, and he's now in ICU. They have put him in a coma.
Sorry.
