I'm the worst for that. I robbed my 288 from a runner to a case and jug right now. I tore my 046 down at least 6 times. Once all the way back to a case with crank.

I am the same way. I robbed all kinds off my 371 and when you go to buy everything to put back and buy new, it's depressing. All my stuff is together and runs good right now and I plan to keep it that way.

so what your saying is a new genuine two piece is or might be the only way to go on 181s thru 288s, versus a piecemeal situation

I'm hoping to keep the 46 somewhat complete. I'll put the 288 together and more than likely it will be for sale. The 133 is enough cool old saw for me in that class

Not at all, I was right and the dealer was wrong, the part numbers were the same on both flywheels. Seems husqvarna only used 1 flywheel on the 288 as I can tell, so no matter what year the coil is, it should work.
