Tested the saw today, had some difficulty getting fire, swapped the bottom coil to 1 from my saw and got fire, next the carb doesn't seem to be getting fuel, if I give it some manually it runs but it stops when the fuel runs out? Guess I will have the carb checked out by a local dealer, my carb knowledge is limited, if all else fails I will take 1 from my own saw.
Make sure the impulse passage on the cylinder is not clogged

With all due respect, I'm somewhat relieved that I am not the only one to have issues on a newly rebuilt saw once in a while. ;) But that 288 is a hell of alot prettier than my 394!

I ended up having to order a brand new carb for my 394.

Did you do any service work to the carb? And just to cover the bases, you replaced the fuel line right? I always replace the fuel line, filter, and kit the carb on a rebuild. Only sometimes I end up replacing the carb anyway... LOL!

All new fuel lines and oil line as well, carb has a new kit in it as well, I took a 1/8 drill bit and ilopened the gasket hole up, starts but doesn't idle properly now, wife insisted I go grocery shopping, so I have to wait to tomorrow to tune it, the gasket hole didn't match 100% before but does now. Thanks I will keep you all posted.

My wife never asks me to go grocery shopping after I screwed it all up and paid way too much in her eyes for it all. But I can definitely spot a deal on a saw and such!

Got the saw running good today, I had to do some troubleshooting, 1 dealer told me that the flywheel and coil needed to match so I pulled the 1 from my saw where I took the coil from and it didn't help a bit, i even tried swapping the red wire just to be safe, swapped the carburetor and problem solved, ran it for a while and it performed very well, I want to put some more time on it later in the week just to be safe, before I ship it.

I think your 288 and my 394 were conspiring against us... I swapped a known good carb into mine last night for testing and it ran flawlessly...

Never heard about flywheel and coils needing to match, and never experienced an issue swapping coils around.

Glad to hear you got it sorted out

Me either but I tried it, figured he probably knew more then me, but once I checked the part numbers and they matched, I figured it wasn't going to help but I already had them off so i tried it anyway.lol. the oiler is putting out way to much for a 20" bar, but I figure the owner can adjust it to his bar.

Gee. I took a flywheel from a 181, n a AM coil for a 288. It made an unbelievably strong running saw..
Guess they matched, huh?

No such thing as too much oil.

As long as I run out of fuel before oil I consider it fine

Customers saws have to come first, I will find them eventually.
I'm the worst for that. I robbed my 288 from a runner to a case and jug right now. I tore my 046 down at least 6 times. Once all the way back to a case with crank.
