I’ve been in the market for a 288 for a bit. Finally grabbed one I’m looking for a bit of info on the cylinder. It’s a ks. 149/2a. Only ones I’m finding on the web is the 2b.
Not a bad looking old saw. No shelf queen by any means. I’ve got quite a list of randoms I’m gonna have to have. She does run Seems to run quite well.

I’m here now. As I said in the other thread I believe the “A” designates the piston to be used. I could be wrong, @Onan18 would know for sure. Let’s see some pics!

Let me know what you need, I have a few 288 Parts kicking around. Don’t have much, but if I can help I will.

So I’ll just drop in here what I’m lookin for. Case any o you’d guys happen to have some randoms. I’m kinda lookin to buy everything all in one clip as to keep shipping cost low an stuff.
Rubber antivibes
Little needle bearing for sprocket
Bar plates
Clutch cover/likely can fix this one. Someone took band out. She’s got a hair trigger on the metal handle brake.
O ring for fuel cap
New sprocket
Top cover screws
Gonna gotta use @Stump Shot repair w heli coils
So far those are the things I’ve found. I’m gonna cut wood after a new sprocket and bearing to load the saw a bit

Yeah I think so. As long as nothing major pops up. Seller was a cool kid to talk to. Said he only brought it out to quiet the stihl crowd. He told me it killed his bad shoulder to pull on it.
It does pull over bad. Haven’t found anything wrong he didn’t tell me about.

288 has some serious starting attitude...as you now know. :)

The cylinder is still odd to me though as I can’t find any info on it. Even did a google search for arbor site and here. Plenty on the B designated one just nothing for the A

If I remember correctly I had the winning bid for a good while, but was outbid by .01 at the end! I say congrats because I think it was well bought..I was away from my phone at auction end and I’m glad..I might have cost the new owner more $ and still lost and that’d be a bummer

If I remember correctly I had the winning bid for 6 days..but was outbid by .01 at the end! I say congrats because I think it was well bought..I was away from my phone at auction end and I’m glad..I might have cost the new owner more $ and still lost and that’d be a bummer
I gave 370 fellas. I’m not too shy on that. That oughta narrow it down if this was it or not. That was my highest bid didn’t know I’d won till next morning It was the last day of bidding for it. Still had hours left. Kinda sh it when I saw that bid had held really They usually bring a good bit more on there.
