Would I be wrong to ask for a good set of timing numbers?

I finally got around to assembling my timing wheel. Even if I don't attempt to port it, I want to attempt grasping the concept
When I did my 272 I got a lot of guys saying 100 120 78 , it does bleed off a lot of compression which is ok since it was for my dad.

I'm assuming that's an RPM recipe VS a torque recipe?
Until I get my 1st wheel mounted, the numbers are still confusing

J, he's saying set the pointer so that the wheel reads the same intake # either way from bottom dead center. If you set one side at 70, and roll the wheel past bdc, and as the piston comes back up, and as the intake opens, read it again. If it reads 80, move your pointer to 75 and try again

Or find anything non metal to jam in through the plug hole. I will use an ink pen, wooden dowel or rubber covered plier handle. Just turn from stopping point to stopping point and adjust the wheel until both stops are equal on either side of TDC. It also helps and minimizes work if you eyeball the piston and get it as close as possible to begin with.
