I'm not sure if that type of sealed bearing would work for our application after seeing the OEM sealed bearing that looks like it literally has a seal pressed into it. Might be worth a try on a 242 with an AM top end???? Not sure I'd risk an OEM top end until that bearing proved up to the task of sealing properly.

Definitely worth looking into I think.

Im more worried about the brass cage

Maybe a 32:1 premix ratio might ease a bit of concern with the brass bearing cage??

Is the seal in the PTO bearing the same as the flywheel side seal?? If so, that brings up the question of why couldn't you do just that??

flywheel seal is 12-20-4 mm
Pto seal is 17.8-26.2-3.6 mm
This type bearing remind me of the one they used on Stihl 020 AV Super, but that one had metal cage.
Im no bearing specialist, know very little about how much heat the different cage materiale can handle, but I got currious to figure out whatever this bearing can handle today, perhaps its time for a call tomorrow lol

Bearings, If I got it correct the 6202 C3 VG104 who is used on 346/357/372 is made due premix lubrication while the old 6202 C3 was more simple industrial standard bearing.

I do remember you referencing the 020 bearing and I did look it up and saw the snap ring groove cut into the outer race. If it has the correct dimensions and is still available I see no reason why it wouldn't work. That snap ring groove should pose no issues for us in our application

most of the times I use the @David Young methode.
The old non XP jug had those timings: IN 63.5, TR 127.5, 127, EX 111.5.
XP jug from 96: IN 62, TR 127, EX 111

Used the wheel on 95 today: IN 61.5, TR 124, EX 110, this jug isnt close to any of the others I got, both transfers open up earlier against intake port, around 122, with a BD on just 12 I guess its the main reason why there is quite a bit carbon down in its transfer ports.

So @Tor R and @Simondo I stumbled across these. They look to be windowed pistons but are listed as for a 242. One is from from HL Supply, not sure of the brand of either one.. Thoughts???

Edit: Just went to HL Supply site and it looks to be a Golf piston. Not sure about the Lil Red Barn listing though
Iv looked at the one from HL to Joe and saw it was a Golf when looking closer at the listing. The one i used fitted and worked just fine ...Isn't Lil red barn the Tecomec ?

I'm not sure what brand the one from Lil Red Barn is... The ebay listing states "Performance Saw Supply" for the brand.

I'm still planning on shooting for the full Tecomec kit once payday rolls around. But I can't help but to keep searching around in the meantime.

Yes that's the Tecomec full cylinder kit from Lil Red Barn... I found a listing from them for a stand-alone piston kit, and on that I am not sure of the brand.

Also, I found a couple of those slacker 545651 sealed crank bearings for the Stihl 020 AV. The seal looks to be very similar if not the same as my OEM bearing/seal on my 242 on a couple of them.

Tecomec piston is labeled NCO on piston crown.
_DSC3388.jpg

Unfortantly I can't give more information since the Tecomec kit is installed on a friends 42 Special.
Tecomec pistons is also marked inside:
_DSC3393.jpg
If it doesn't have the tt mark it isn't a Tecomec piston

So this leads me to wonder.... what would port timing be with the Meteor piston and it's different dimensions?? Modified with windows of course. :D
Meteor piston would give you ruffly those timings:

With gasket:
IN 58
TR 123
EX 107.5

Without gasket:
IN 60
TR 125.5
EX 109.5

OEM stock is around (with gasket):
IN 62
TR 127
EX 111

I use this program alot when I size up timings:
http://www.torqsoft.net/piston-position.html

242 has 30mm stroke and conrod 56mm
Squish on 242 is around 12-14th (0.3-0.35mm).

Math....OEM
Intake: 44.35mm - 0.35 (squish) - 0.5 (gasket) - 34 (piston) = 9.5 mm = 62°
Transfer: 26.2 - 0.35 - 0.5 = 25.35 mm = 127°
Exhaust: 23 - 0.35 - 0.5 = 22.15 mm = 111°

For Meteor with gasket it will look like this (its a tad complicated since squish change with 0.8mm, but squish will be 1.15mm)
Intake : 44.35 - 1.15 - 0.5 - 34.2mm = 8.5 mm = 58°
Transfer: 26.2 - 1.15 - 0.5 = 24.55mm = 122.7°
Exhaust: 23 - 1.15 - 0.5 = 21.35mm = 107.4°

That high intake reminds me of some 262XP numbers Doc posted in another thread. Great info Tor!
if I remember correct 262 intake is 67-69° depend of what type jug.
On 242 I choose to drop the the port, on 42 special I choose to lift the intake roof, intake is placed different on rhose two from the factory.
The nicest intake I've ever seen is the one Tecomec has.

Thanks for posting those numbers Tor. The Meteor numbers don't looks too bad without a base gasket...I would just give it a little more intake

Well guys, I messaged Lil Red Barn through ebay inquiring as to what brand the piston kit is that they have for sale. They replied that it is made by Performance Saw Supply and not Chinese or Taiwanese in origin. I went ahead and ordered just that for now, hoping to be able to order the Tecomec full cylinder kit next pay... Just wasn't in the cards this pay... Truck repairs, one planned and one I just found out about 5 minutes ago.... :BangHead:

So anyway, here is a link to the ebay listing for the piston I just ordered: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181505707342?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I will get some pics, take some measurements and post them up when it arrives. Hopefully this piston is a closer match to OEM specs as they seem to have plenty available. It would be nice to have a solid option for at least the piston for our 242xp's.

I will also get timing numbers with and without a gasket with this piston once I get the few parts I need for the bottom end and get that together. And of course I will share my findings on that.

Really hoping this piston turns out to be a good option for us!
