is this saw bone stock?
air leak can do that
ignition timing off can also. I had a issue like this when I used the wrong flywheel on a ms 261
scored?

have you tried pouring fuel in the carb?
old saws you could get it to pop by using the choke to draw more fuel

the saw will pop everytime, you pull it. the saw is 6 months old. yes sir it is bone stock. I checked flywheel and ignition. getting good spark. Gonna pull muffler today and check piston.

6 months old…why not return/exchange or warranty claim?

Have you tested the carb for air leaks? You might try pulling the plug and spray some WD40 in the cylinder, put the plug back in and see if it will maybe sputter (more than just a pop). Maybe blockage on the impulse is preventing continuous fuel flow to the carb?

What is the compression?
change spark plug
check wires in handle as they can get cut, they might be shorting it out once it fires.

we I changed it to a standard carb. and Its going around the mtron, figured if it changed would be wiring harness, if it didnt would make it the coil. same thing

If its mtron and giving a single pop, change the solenoid. If that diesnt get it, throw a harness in it... or do both at the same time

If the bore is clean, and has good compression, and you have a NEW NGK in it, its a fuel issue, either noid or wiring, or both...

I eliminated the selenoid by convering to standard carb and checking too see if it done the same, it did. wich told me it was a coil issue because Wiring harness would nt have affected it either. After that checked coil again, this time I removed plug to reduce compression. turned it over with impact. coil with the stihl cat 40 would hit one time. and nothing else. Expaining why it would pop one time.
