Grandpa loved to lug this thing around all the time. Full load at idle oil pressure is not a good thing to do!

All of my grandpas were the same way - they grew up on those old, low-rev machines and that's how they got used to operating.

I seen that too! I think 514hp and 600 ftlbs torque is a little much for my m5od. Mike will have to donate his zf5 if I go that route!
Well get in early while he's only got one good leg...

But seriously, is there cheapish easy power hiding in there somewhere? Cam, valve gear etc?

The biggest hurdle is the computer system. I am a huge efi guy. Carbs suck! The stock computer is so dumb is cannot adapt to a vacuum leak much less any performance mods. So I am looking at a stand alone aftermarket computer system to do anything but stock.

The Holley sniper EFI system would be the best way to go but it's a grand or better. Original plan was big cam and sniper EFI on a 4 barrel intake but I read that it turns the engine into a low torque high rpm engine. Not what I want. So turbo at 5psi is the best bet with a stock cam for my application running a blow through sniper setup.

Just too much money right now to do all that at once. Getting a fresh, tight engine in the truck will probably be the best performance mod at this time.

Or....swap 4.0 jeep inline in it with a 5.0 stroker kit. Solved. Revs and torque

Naw, the 300 is close enough to 5.0 without all the extra cost and longevity issues possibly with a stroked 4.0. Still would have to swap in a different computer system so if I went that way I would just go turbo 300!:D
