It will follow the notch but a rope is just good insurance .For some reason something is killing large shagbark hickories .So don't dilly dally because once the roots are gone it will come down on it's own .Would not surprise me if that thing is full of ants .Good firewood,axe hanles etc but not rot resistant .

Just as a general conversation of hickory which are a second cousin of pecan .Pecan has long been a nice wood for furniture etc The closest to it north of where pecan grows is bitter nut hickory often called smooth bark hickory.I made another leaf to stretch a 10 foot dining room table to 12 feet using this wood which came out real close to the original pecan as far as coloration and grain match.natural finish .Trivia,no more no less.

I’m a little late for this one but as long as the wood isn’t brash and no rot (unlikely it’s hickory) small face and a big swing Dutchman with maybe a quick Dutchman in the face, done.
