Mine is 3 second faster in a 35 second cut
That's less than 10%.
For it to be that close is good,I don't have one that will be that close to it,that's the strongest saw I've ever ran so to be close is pretty cool.
The 056 will only turn 13.3 no load and the 066 will go close to 15k and that's a insurmountable deficit,if it would tune around 14k it would be hard to beat.

I'll say again that it's running against a retarded strong 066,it will be ahead of all my stihls but this one. I'm gonna sick this 066 on my 395 now, before it couldn't have handled it but it's closer now.

Without a doubt if these to saws tuned the same the 056 would be ahead, I'm scratching around looking for a few more RPM's. Compression is a little high but I'm gonna try it with one ring,I'll loose 5 or 10lb and pick up 500 rpm just by doing that, these rings are stiff

When you turn the 066 down to 13.5, does it get weaker with the long bar than when it's tuned up near 15?

I've never ran it with a long bar that fast.
It's around 13.8 and the 056 is around 13
I believe the faster I turn it the farther ahead it will be but I'm not going to run it that fast in a 35 second cut.
It's ahead because of rpm,the 056 is stronger but to slow to catch it.
I'll know in a few if I can catch it or not

I'll have a chat with him soon if I get a chance. But I'd be willing to bet he got tired of the ignorant arrogance and bullying by a certain few that will obviously never stop. Some bitter people I tell ya.
That is a damn shame. One would assume his patients wore thin from attempting to educate a stubborn fool. I've seen few here. Please get him here soon.

Are you confounded the intake boot and carburetor is the reason for this?

If you are 1 turn out on the H, you have plenty of fueling capability. You can pull the filter and the choke and see if you gain...thin the throttle shaft...then move on to the intake boot.

The carb can give it more fuel but then I run our of air.

My point exactly.

If you ditch the filter and choke, you are reducing pressure drop...effectively raising the pressure of the atmospheric air "pushing" the incoming charge thru the carb, into the case. If you gain, keep progressing through the intake tract. If you don't gain, your problems are somewhere else.

I'm sure I have the same problem as my 066 had,the cylinder flows more than it can get,the more I restrict the muffler the more rpm it gained.
Adam ordered a carb and boot and it's on the way.

I've heard rumors that he may be attending the cottage grove lumberjack saw races again this year.

I say if you're gonna compare two saws that are identical models, parts, and top ends then use the same bars and chains to compare as a control. Once you start comparing two different models or two different top ends then the control of same chain and length is eliminated and becomes unfair for the comparison as one saw will likely always be timed better than the other for a specific b&c set up. Set each saw up as good as you can get it and then smack them head to head to see which one performs better.

I hear ya Jason, my 044 #1 likes to be tuned at 15,000 also, while the other two seem to like 14,500 just fine. It (and your 066) may just have better port timing from the factory, and there may be nothing you can do about it. Each cylinder has a "range" of performance that is attainable, and some are just a little higher than others.

Always the same bar and chain.
I'm fresh out of 98cc 064's to compare it to so my 066 will have to do.
I said in the beginning that if I could beat the 066's here with it then I've done good,I ain't yet but I'm getting closer.

When I'm comparing I'm not looking for the fastest bar and chain setup, I'm looking for one that will load one as hard as I can.

Why you gotta drag me into this?
What do you think deeter, can a 064/056 beat my 066?
I think with the strange transfer design and the intake dumping on one side of the cylinder might be to much to overcome.

If the transfers weren't so high from the factory it would be easier.
