I'm thinking a smaller case will alow use of a non oversised carb. what makes me think this is the HDA carb on my 357 with the 272 top end. the 357 has crank stuffer cups in place and it is ridiculous fast. I drilled out the metering seat one sise larger to match the sise of the one in the EL carbs from the 562xp.

The exhaust is getting close to 70% and the roof is as flat as I dare.

The saw runs plenty good but I think it should run better.

I took the airfilter and choke out and gained a lot so I replaced the intake boot with a 044 boot and have a bored carb on it now. Going to find out how it does.

But will it be as strong as on an 066 case?

Dan, I think you are making a great point, the hybrid 044/046s usually don't seem to have the torque of the ported 046s (but they do have high RPMs).

When Jason builds one on an 066 we will know for sure.

My 066 and this 056 have the same case
I have a 660 lower I can put it on but I really don't think it will matter.

It runs good, damn good but I think it should be able to beat the smaller saws or its a waisted effort.

J, ever think of going assymetric with the transfers because of jug design? Maybe you can tighten one and loosen another tunnel?

Do you have any wash on the piston to examine?

I was thinking it needed more exhaust too. Is the arch on the roof flatter or more arced than usual?
The transfers are a long way from square and can't be fixed but I don't know if it matters,I kinda doubt it, I done my best to aim them in the same spot and according to the wash patern there dead on and working very good, the uppers are very small and I had to grind the bottom part to clear the piston crown, the bit I use to finish all the 064 and 066 transfers won't even fit,to my eye I don't think I could make them better, the intake is very small compared to a 1122 but I don't think that's hurting it either, the very short blow down and inability to feed it is what's holding it back and it's definitely more a bd problem I think.

I'm gonna call Shaun and have him explain how to measure port height because there's no good way to eyeball where there at,there between 119 and 117 possibly higher,I have room to get them down some but it will come at a high price since compression is already plenty high and I don't need anymore intake.

Stock it possibly had 15 degrees of blow down and that's OK for a 12k 056 but not in this case, when it's tuned for a good 4 stroking work tune it's around 12.1 to 12.5k once again perfect for a 12k max 056

You must have ignored my pm on that explanation.
How can one know how to measure degrees while the jug is installed but cannot figure out how to measure it while off the saw?

There was a L O T of reading in this thread. Now to think I get to read it a few more times to absorb some of it. Thanks EVERYONE. I enjoyed it and for the record there are a lot of "WHAT IFs" to ponder over and I will certainly benefit from them through time. Beat reading the threads on A S >>>

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say lots of people who no how to read a wheel don't know how to measure for port duration, matter of fact I bet damn few do.

I'll add you to the list of people that i know how measure opening and duration,it's now 2 people long.

Very few things are certain in this business and they depend on other things to be certain. Most everything is different every time. Keeps it interesting.

I could work on it till fixed then post about it like it was easy but I post what I'm doing in real time mostly,if it don't work everyone knows it didn't and I like that.
I've changed how I do things and getting everything else to go along with it can be a pia but I got nothing better to do

I like the way you are sharing.

I wonder where the RPMs are on Brett's hybrid.

I have yet to use a wheel. I measure with the jug off. Works for me.

Do tell.
I need to measure this cylinder

You need to know stroke and rod length in mm. Also what the squish measures. Then measure off the squish band to port opening in mm. Deduct the squish measurement from this and insert your measurements here http://torqsoft.net/piston-position.html
You will need to change the calculate box from piston position to crank angle.
