A few months ago I got a really good price on an 044. The guy showed me where he had to have the handle welded and told me of several things he had to have fixed. I could hear that the saw wasn't running as good as it should but it was still a good deal. Don't get me wrong I am happy with the saw.

I did not notice the fuel cap was the new style and the contour of the fuel tank doesn't match the top cover very well. I think the fuel tank was replaced with the wrong one at some point. Everything operates as it should it should, it just got me to thinking.

So what do you think?unnamed (1).jpg unnamed.jpg

I love my 044. Delete the base gasket, get a duel port cover, and shave the flywheel key .020 to advance the timing and that saw will make you smile.
You have me intrigued but I am not a mechanic, I can work on things and make them run. I really like this saw and would like to do the mods but I will require guidance.

A dual port cover will be no problem.
Shaving the Flywheel key shouldn't be to difficult.
Delete base gasket....... tell me more?

Remove the cylinder and the base gasket between the cylinder and the case. Put the cylinder back on using a good quality sealant for 2 strokes.

Prolly should check the squish when the gasket is removed. Mine was to tight had to sand a little out of the chamber. It is a runnin mother with just those mods

O my I guess I'll give it a go. If there's not enough clearance from top of piston to top of jug it's bad. [emoji38] from listening to the smart guys on here you need like 18 to 20 thousand clearance to b safe. I would ask a better mechanic the me friend. One of them will pop in here I'm sure
