I'm just starting my research into this, have HATED that I couldn't "experiment" w/ my cs590 (jugs/everything are too expensive & only OEM), then I saw a Youtuber w/ this MONSTER cs590 73cc's like 7 or 8HP just insane, anyways I'm hoping to get thoughts here, as said I'll be effectively getting every bit of info from elsewhere I can because I have every intention of moving-forward if there's no "you are incapable dude" that I'm missing, but I haven't been able to find one yet --- but sadly the most basic part is what I fear will stop me: The simple mounting of the jug.

I've been surprised finding just how interchangeable, say, a cylinder or piston is from 1 brand to another, clearly "common sizing standards" are being used (intentionally or ad hoc) by the OEM's, anyways am curious if anyone can tell me whether it is/isn't a bolt-up situation (the super long stroke, relatively speak, of the 590 would make it an awesome candidate for over-boring, no?)

Thanks a lot am very eager hearing about this because frankly the ubiquity of both 590 powerheads, and 440 top-ends (and 660/661 intake boots, as apparently after time his unit was taking in air so he up-sized the horn to a 661's, this is years-into real usage!!) Youtuber is Dyno Joe, have been finding a LOT of great stuff from him (had no idea that proper tune had as-significant an effect on HP as it does, the charts are staggering would NEVER intentionally put "kinda rich" fuel in a powerhead again!)

I'll be honest, pound for pound, just an absolutely excellent saw. It takes a lot of work to get the 044 jug n slug on there but what a dynamic saw. There is a thread where Joe detailed the work done on it.

@huskihl did one or two as well

Best advice is order a 590 base gasket. Set it on the 440/460 cylinder and slot the holes to fit.

Jb weld the case cutouts, or weld the sides of the cylinder.

Ktm 50 rod bearing or I believe the ms440 rod bearing is the same.

Widen the piston to fit the rod.

Trim anything that hits the plastic

044/46 boot will work unless you are hamfisted operator.

Cap the top muffler outlet, add one to the side and a taller muffler brace.

Pretty much all that is involved

I've got a 440 cylinder and a 600 so that's going on my to do list, I thought it would be more involved that that.

Thanks!

How much more does an 044/46 hybrid weigh vs a converted 590?

I’ve only done a 620, and I recall it being a fatty for a saw of it’s displacement.

The coolness and stealth factor is certainly in favor of the 590 hybrid.

Taking Stihl parts and trying to get them to work well or better on a Husqvarna or an Echo has never worked for me in 20 years. I gave up after I asked myself a simple question, "Why on earth am I trying to do this?"

You just weren’t trading the right parts. The vid I posted above is about 2.5 - 3x faster than a stock 620
