It's weird that both mine and Wonkydonkeys saws had this feature, and we're both Brits. So presumably it was a feature that stihl themselves did in the European market. I can't think of any other explanation. Mine and his are basically identical, but this are 2 different 036s.You know it honsetly likes like someone unbrazed factory deflector off and brazed a piece of pipe in were the deflector used to be.ive seen alot of 036 and 034 mufflers and only saw the one with the holes in front like the 026 wich was on the 034 and 034s and then your sandard 036 luke an 044 muffler.

I could tell by pic.your muffler was modified with tube.yeh if you look at one of the pics with the pee-shooter you can see how the metal is on the inside. its not a hole that someone drilled and brazed a pipe in like mod, the metal is rolled back to allow a tight fit like a propper job, how ever the front cover did seem a bit shiny like ss i guess it been replaced, but thats always the way with a 22yr old saw that ive had for 5 yrs
i could have done with a spacer today, would have made it more simples and quicker.
Gotch i figured there wasnt one oem just tryin to help.i just googled stihl 036 exhaust, its an AM there are a few but heres one

Just pull the tabs up and remove the screen.is all i didThis is what my stihl supplier in the UK try to sell if you phone up and ask for a stock 036 muffler:

after a lot of explaining and picture sending, eventually the kind lady on the other end of the call, managed to find me this:

with the much easier to modify outlet. Finally I can get a full night's sleep.....well not quite....as the lady on the phone p0inted out "oh, those ones are for the American market", it comes complete with something us Limeys don't have to deal with, yes, one of the those lovely spark arrestors:

So what's the best way to get that baby off? I'm thinking, carefully aim the dremel at those lil spot welds. Then that whole plate should come right out too. Does that sound about right?
The spark screen of the muffler is easily pulled out, leave the rest alone, it won't hurt anything.
Cool, thanks guys.Just pull the tabs up and remove the screen.is all i did
Then i just widened the factory hole with a carbide cutter on angle grinderCool, thanks guys.
Ha! It's ironic that you were building the exact same muffler style that me and Sean (@Wonkydonkey ) have endeavoured to replace! Mind you with your "version" you got a much beefier flowing pipe there...I would have been happy with mine, if it had started life with such an outlet.Lol. I tried but couldn't do it. Took it to my friend to have him try. I used 1/2"emt pipe. Very thick. And the used muffler has thin metal. Very difficult to find right heat setting to weld thin metal and thick hardened tubing. Lol
1/2"emt tube when cut on the angle had a decent flow through it.
I may try and use some solder over that to make it look a bit nicer. Keep it as backup. LOL
Did sound cool though.
