I run 32:1. My saws spew oil out and I love it. Pistons look like the day I got the saw. Imma gonna keep on doing it! All ported. Stihl's of course. [emoji106]

If I said we were the minority that would be an understatement..I go somewhere around 40:1 for the most part

Nothing wrong with 40:1, it’s what used to be recommended. I use that ratio. It’s more idiot proof than 50:1 imho. 50:1 is because of two things in my eyes. #1 the epa #2 better quality oils nowadays allow leaner ratios.

I had a rod bearing go on a 346. Bearing cage let go. Dry inside. Imma use at least 40:1. I was using 40 or 32:1 Them fellas that like to grind on cylinders reccommend more oil. The overseas versions of saws we have here reccommend more oil. Maybe I’ll just use a lil more than the 50:1 is all. I really don’t know the answer to these things. I do think 50:1 would be fine with some of the bike oils and exotics

If 50:1 is an EPA mandated rule that OEM's must follow and insist customers follow suit, then why does near EVERY modern saw manual state 25:1 should be used in place of OEM's factory oil? ...

My small saws hate bike oils at more than 50:1..they dont even come close to burning the oil..I always figured if the OPE oils can see a saw out for a long time at 50:1 then an oil like K2 is gonna do an even better job at the same ratio.

Ive never had that issue with bike oils at 32:1 and on occasion heavier.

Probably cause a two-stroke can run on just about any kind of lubricant at 25-1. Besides regular motor oil, I've seen air-cooled motorcycles run on Automatic Transmission Fluid and even motorcycle chain oil. - And a chainsaw puts out far less power than a piped motorcycle, plus the chainsaw has fan cooling.

Recommending 25-1 will cover a chainsaw manufacturer's backside no matter what oil 'happy homeowner' puts in it.

Do they even mention 25:1 any more?

I had an old Wajax fire pump that was from the early 60's I believe. It speced 30wt non detergent oil at 16:1.

I ran an air-cooled 1983 KDX-200 from the Cape York Peninsula to Cohen (Northern Queensland) flat chat (130-140km p/h - that's 80-87 MPH)) for about 4 hours straight. I felt it should have a bit more oil for the run so I bumped it to 20-1 for the ride. I was running Castrol mineral oil.
