Pretty easy to cut a new key way? Nice that the case accepted the 660 coil-- most I've come across had the 3-hole fw case and required the dogleg or 046 coil.
I have an unlimited 064 flywheel and use it for reference and file a new keyway with a modified file.
ITs not that easy but doable if your carefull.

The limited coil had the same footprint as the unlimited, and the case had 4 mounting points.

Id still like to try an aftermarket dogleg... I'm running two 046 coils and they're good, but they bite if you're not all in on startups. Then again most 064s may be like this.

All I have is limited or 1201 flywheels so I have to use a dog leg coil or make a new key way.

My 064 runs a 1201 flywheel and 660 coil.
Goes good.

The limited 1204 flywheels need a new keyway cut.
I just sit them on top of the 1201 and cut a keyway where the 1201 keyway is.

They will run but kick so bad there unstartable.
This mlp 064 with a 066 cylinder and 040 from the chamber and the exhaust at 102 and any coil other than a bosch runs great but might take you and 4 of your buddies most of a day to get it started.

I start these saws everyday and it's been years since one has got me,I've put a rubber gripped glove on and cuss and grit my teeth and give it all I have and not flinch the pull rope before it gets ripped away.

With this saw warm you can slowly pull the rope to get the piston up to tdc and it hit and rip the handle away.

Bought another bosch dog leg like the flywheel Is made for and all is well.

speaking of 064's
Im thinking of having a play with the LRB aftermarket cylinder I now have sitting here.
Will look for a plug with a longer thread to use and am thinking of matching it up with a thin ring 181 piston.
Piston weighs just a few grams more than the OEM 064 piston and will be the same weight once I take to it with a burr.

Are we talking about the same thing?
1201 flywheel and 660 coil?

Mine starts ok, same as any other saw?

With any short mount coil this saw will kick the crack out of your ass.
The 1201a is made specifically for the bosch dog leg coil but it will run fine with a short mount 1300 1314 yadda yadda
This saw is a kicker anyway but unstartable with a short mount coil.

After its warmed up you could take the starter off and turn it to tdc and it hit and kick back.
Dead serious.

Before I got another coil I've went to try it and try 4 or 5 times to start it and never move the rope.

It will still get you but it can be started now.
I've ported and built a lot of 064's and never had one like it.

I have done a few with a single ring 281 piston.

Ahh so it was just that saw
I thought you meant all with the 1201 and short coil.

I know :)

What is the weight difference between the 064 and 281 piston?
I weighed the 066 and 288 piston and the 288 is a lot heavier.

I am hoping the bearing issues won't be there with the thin ring 181 piston being the same weight as the 064 OEM piston

I make the best running saws with a oem piston.
The husky pistons are heavy and unless you shim the pin bearing it could be a problem,I had a couple fail in 066's so I'll never use one again, besides a meteor 064 piston has more skirt than you need.
Also on a 064 that already has a thin base then take .100 off and it's paper thin.
Oe piston all the way

The bearing issues are from excess play between the bosses and rod eye.
