I thought it was an 895, but I honestly can’t remember now... it’s been a couple years. I dumped gas in the carb and got it to fire, but I didn’t know much about these old saws, so I gave it to a buddy.

Got it with all this stuff here... I should’ve kept the 797, but it was in pretty rough shape.

That was a nice haul for sure! Good parts stash, nice bars! Wouldn’t mind the handle bars as well!

I sold, traded, or gave away everything in that picture... I wish I still had some of it now.

Those long bars now reside on two very worthy 895 Mac's and a 900g Homie. The 72" is destined for a 797g though I'm afraid.

Can anyone tell me of a condenser that works with these saws. I have been reading several posts and I believe 85358 is a suitable replacement, but would just like someone to confirm. Also, I have seen electronic ignition from I believe a Randy's Engine Repair. Has anyone ever used these? I dont plan to try it just learning for future reference.

Hi everyone. I recently purchased a McCulloch 797. Saw is in relatively good shape for its age in my opinion. Are there any resources or repair/parts manuals available? Also, in collecting various items throughout the years there always seemed to be a person whom had a wealth of knowledge and or parts for sale that has been willing to help. Is there a person or persons that can help with this saw? If you have any information, tips, etc. You are willing to share here or through a personal message please do so. Thank you for reading.
I have a 797 Super Mcculloch im selling 3 2 3 2 7 1 8 4 4 0 joseA__B7AD.jpg

A look at condensers, capacitors in effect if not name .In a battery ignition it's important the condenser is matched to the coil and primary voltage else it will "burn" the points in time .In a magneto it's job is preventing the voltage from "jumping" the points ,flashing over when they open .As such just about any that will fit in the space provided will work .
With a small engine flywheel impulsed magnetic primary voltage ,it's of very low voltage which is what the points are are switching . These are not like racing mags such as Joe Hunt or Vortex that can knock a horse out .
A solid state trigger device will work in place of points .Fact I have a 125 Mac that had an Atom Arc which I changed back to points .These devices are rather inexpensive if a person wanted to go that route .

I recently acquired a 797, and I can’t decide what length bar to run on it. I know I want at least a 42”, but also toying with the idea of a 48-50” bar. Probably going to go with the Cannon Superbar .404 with the large Husq. mount, and file out the slot to fit... does that seem like the right idea? Thanks.

Ya it’s a good plan, I am running that 125 with a 50” cannn husky mount, but 3/8 8t, the same saw with a 36” 404 8t pulls it well but the skip 404 is a little rough cutting compared to 3/8 for me
A 42 is a good length too, I need to try full comp 404 to see if I like it

My 123cc Mac's run 50" for work as smaller seems a waste of these saws power. I do run a 36" on a 101, but it's a fun saw or one of my 797's has a 36" bar, but with 1/2" chisel chain. I run 3002 mount 880/090 Cannon bars and use the little ring spacers Cannon makes for this purpose. Then till the adjuster hole and redrill or slot the oil hole and your ready to go.

Yeah I’ve never really run .404 on anything, but this saw appears to have a .404 rim sprocket, so...

Working on my saw tonight I noticed the chip guard that covers the exhaust from debris flying back is broken off and missing. Would anyone have one they could follow part with or know of another model saw that shares one with this saw?

Does the bar slot need cut all the way out to get the bar on the saw? I have a smaller bar that will fit, but the clutch is in the way of getting it onto the bar studs...

I can tell you from experience a 125 Mac will pull full comp .404 on a 48" hard nose with an 8 tooth rim . As a matter of fact so will a Homelite 2100 S .Neither one has a problem oiling either .These two saws were made for long bars .

There’s a 2100 for sale here locally... not sure what they are worth? Sounds like it needs fuel system work...
