I'd grab that 2100 in a heart beat if the price were right. Make sure it has stout
compression as they are known for bad top ends.

I would be the worst person to ask concerning "what is it worth" .I'm a world class tight wad when it comes to buying anything .

The one I have is an "s" model ,which has a splined crankshaft .I bought via Rich Dougan on flea bay .Damned thing was full of used crankcase oil .The decomp bracket was loose and it was about like rope starting a Harley .I got it rather inexpensively but this was before many people even knew what they were .Mechanically it was sound just needed some cosmetic work because it had spent it's time in the trenches not a shelf queen for sure .As far as power ,some say the big Macs have the edge but from my perspective having two 125 Macs an 084 Stihl and this Homey I don't see a lot of difference .Just big old draft horses made to pull the plow ---with gusto .

$375 ... how much compression should it have?

I've seen some strong ones at 180, If below 150-160 i'd guess
it has some wear or scoring. 375 is a good price if everything
is good.

My grandpa quit logging in the 70’s, and he always ran Homelite saws... the last saw he bought was an XP 1100, and my dad used that saw for cutting firewood well into the 80’s... I think my uncle still has it.

I’ve been watching this 2100 for a while... I think I’ll call him and see if he can check the compression. It has been for sale for several months... he’d probably come down from the listed price.

If it does have less than expected compression every so often rings show up on flea bay .Often reasonably priced .Then again some people think old parts are gold which is just flea bay being flea bay .You just have to watch it a couple times a week until something pops up .
Off the topic but an example P100 Partner/PM1000 McCulloch air filter, two different styles .My Lord they try to get upwards of 40 bucks a pop .Old Al the tight wad,40 bucks, free shipping for 4 new ones . Again restoring old saws or any thing old is not for the impatient .

Can anyone tell me how close a 790 McCulloch is to say a 797 (for general parts)?

A lot of parts will interchange from 790, 795, 890, and 895 to a 797.
Best to invest in a few ipl's to give you a better idea.

Been looking at some parts diagrams as I need a new fuel line. I can't find a direct replacement available. May I ask what some of you guys have done or substituted?
Also, I have no idea how the oiler works or how to adjust it and would rather not wreck something. Can someone give me a how to on that? I could not find anything in a search.

It should have an impulse piston pump setting over the oil tank if I read the IPL correctly which is similar to a 125 .It will have a screw on the top that limits the stroke of the piston. Clock wise should decrease the oil flow while counter clockwise increases it by allowing a longer piston stroke .
If it doesn't seem to oil right you might try flushing the system by running a partial oil tank full of diesel fuel or kerosene through it .An oiler on a big Mac reed valve can really put out the oil if they are operating correctly

After a few back and forth texts with Aaron @Eccentric I think I have the bar/plate/spacer situation figured out to get a proper bar mounted on my 797...

Good deal! To use most newer bars you need the slim-line spacers

Anybody got two of these bar plates they’ll part with? I see them on eBay, but they are $18 each!

No, I could use an extra set or two of those myself, hoping for a good deal out there! Lol!!! The slim line spacer are like $5.50, and really help with small tail bars, like newer Oregon bars.
