The 990g has been on my short list of saws I want to restore.
I always figured it would look nice next to my C9.

Is that a nos bar or did you refurbish it?

Well I spent the day painting parts. Quite the process. lol Duplicolor self etching primer; duplicolor black, aluminum, metal flake green, victory red; and spray max 2k clear. Day and night difference in the shine compared to the duplicolor clear. Quality is much better so let's hope it holds to the fuel and oil resistance it is praised for. Helper handle for the bar showed up today as well!
Few more parts to paint, but those are the ones that will have decals put on so I am waiting with those so I can clear coat over the decals as well for better protection.

Starting to putting the saw back together.....new crank bearings, seals, rings, c-clips, and head gasket. Carb has been kitted. Waiting on these decals is killin me.
Found a starter cup with both tabs but dented to hell. Hoping with some patience I can make it look halfway decent.

Could you blast and put a layer of epoxy on the cup to level it?
Probably, It will be blasted for sure. Didn't think of the epoxy...good idea. A guy on another forum has a stack of nos ones so I may try to get one from him. lol I'll have some fun with this one first to see what I can do though.

Wow, that is gonna be one bada55 saw.

Question: What are the two big gears for? Is that some kind of oil pumping system? At first I thought they were stepping down the chain sprocket, but that doesn't make sense...

It's a geardrive saw. The sprocket is geared slower for more power to cut
the biggest wood and pull the longest bars.
