My wood is still harder.lol I got a bunch of that stuff. some pieces would weigh 300 pounds. I have a log that's about four feet long and couldn't tell you what it weighs, all this stuff is under a lava flow

You won't put a nail in Locust after it dries, in fact it is tough to do with a lot of our hardwoods.

They will not use Locust for a building material, cause if it warps it will take the whole structure with it. It does not like to rot either, even if it is in the ground. They used to use it for guard rail posts, and they still like to use it for hiking bridges. They say the bridge will not last forever, just a day longer than stone!!!

A Locust fence post will far out last any other wood we have, but it is so hard most farmers won't use it.

That said, I know you guys have harder wood, which really scares me!

Well that confirms my suspicions!

The bottom log cuts more like I know.
Explains why our cut vids look like we cant sharpen a chain.

But don't it make good fire wood!

Ya very good firewood.
That Yellowbox is green its even more fun when its dry.

Have some 20 year plus dried yellow box, I got from an old gentleman when he sold his farm. Fantastic for making draw runners and similar in furniture making.

It was used to make the old scale's (not what you weigh with, but distances/angle etc) for the governmental lands departments. Simply because once dry it becomes incredibly stable.

the hardest wood in my area is seasoned black/honey locust or the rare and mysterious treated rail road ties.
