This is a nothing thread, just thought I would post a pic of a nice example of a Buloke.

We have a lot of it around here.
Not had the opportunity to cut any of it yet but I will one day :)

About 300% harder than black locust and oak on the Janka scale.

I would love to find a decent sized one and get some slabs...... they dont grow really big.

No point really, was just driving through large stands of them along a conveyor at work today and thought I would stop and take a picture of a nice one.

Yes, sir.

I recon the phrase was coined while cutting trees and the sap would gum everything up making going tough.
I also recon that is why eucalyptus trees are called gum tree's

These iron wood varieties of eucalyptus are nasty for it.

Do you guys get hard wood that fills everything with sticky layers of sap that sets hard like enamel?

yeah thats what this stuff does.
It coats the chain and bar in gum that needs a scraper or hot chemical clean to remove.
We dont have pine here. and if it is plated it dont last long.

I see so many videos of saws in this perfect round long timber in the states. Makes me want to come over for a go!

You can see the folage mess in the background of that video.
It has been picked over by blokes with smaller saws for 2 days.
One bloke had a shot at the bugger stuff with a 70cc Husky and killed it due to blunt chain.

This is what a big iron bark looks like prior to falling over

I have a 026 as a "liming saw" that never gets used.

she aint goin' anywhere :)
I hope to have it running tip-top in time for the Geniusfest in August and I imagine I will get my ass handed to me by some handful of saws without pipes at Dexter's GTG in October :)
It's all good fun. I am way to crappy an operator to think I will beat anyone in single cuts let alone a three-cut :)

It looks alot bigger with people in the pic for perspective, does it have nice grain when it gets slabbed or is it just hard and a pain in the butt?

Rock hard wood full of corrosive sap and snakes and scorpions....hmmm I don't think I am headed to Australia anytime soon :)

Oh I am no expert and I recon you did great!
I am just really interested in comparing timbers on our respective sides of the world.
I find it interesting and I really wish I had the funds to travel over there and feel the difference with saw in hand.
