I just got one of the new 3" barrel .44 spec GP 100's. Without a doubt, the best out of the box trigger I've felt on a Ruger. The grips are rubber but without the finger grooves. From what I hear, the enhancements from the Match Champion were incorporated into this gun. If you have a chance, take a look at one. With the short barrel and light weight, heavy .44 spec loads (240gr bullet @ 1'000fps) are a handful.
Will do i'm helping my friend this week find a redhawk .357 i wouldn't want it a large frame .357 but that's what he likes haven't seen the .44 yet.

Here's a photo of the Gp100 in .44 spec with a 3" barrel. It's a nice little revolver, that makes a big hole.

Pick up an SP101, in .22lr and feel the trigger. Both SA & DA suck. The GP100 in .22lr is only marginally better. Replacing springs can affect reliability and you still aren't going to get a trigger that's close to a S&W 617. I have both the SP and GP in .22lr. I also have a pair or 617's.
The Rugers are an excellent tool for a developing a smooth DA trigger stroke. I have 8" and 10" plates that I set at 15-20 yds. I practice shooting the Rugers DA at the plates.

The 10 mm is certainly a hot rod but I'm not sure I'd choose it over a big bore, .454-.500, for protection against a large bear.
I've shot the 10 mm in a S&W 1006 and Glock 20 but not in a sub compact. In the full size guns, I don't find the recoil offensive. In a sub compact, I'm not sure that would be the case.

Deer season I'm carrying my Colt SAA NF 45LC loaded with 255gr. Keith-style loads around 1050fps. Bear country I'd go 44mag+.

a 310+ WFN hardcast lead pill in .430-500 caliber @1000-1500 FPS is pretty effective close range medicine against most of Mother natures angry animals two or four legged. But, the 10mm is a fine round and there are times where it's higher capacity may off-set its lower power as compared to the cartridges in the prior sentence. I will have a GenIV G20 soon and between it, the .357, .41 Mag, .44 Mag and eventually a stout framed .45, I will NOT be lacking for options.

My next investment will be a coonan 1911 in 357 mag they started making again few years ago
I had a Coonan A, years ago. Really nice gun. A guy offered me way too much for it, so I let it go. You'll like it.

I've only shot a few Gen and II's and they were various 9mms. The GenIV G20 and GenIII G21 that my firend has will both end up with me and are both incredibly soft shooting and accurate weapons. I still prefer the ergos of a single stack 1911 (and the single action trigger too), but for a higher capacity weapon, they're nice. I'm about to sell my GenIV G23 as the more I shoot it, the less I like it and all other smaller-framed glocks. I like the 42 and 43 and then the big boys in either 10mm or .45acp. The 21 may see a .460 Rowland kit eventually as it's a lot hotter than a 10mm....
