I've had feedback from a few people with ported 550/562's. The hot start problem pretty much went away when they stopped using the decomp button for hot starts.
Is that why a mkII does not have one? :)

I always wondered if my mild compression increase helped with the restarts. Actually if I were to pick the biggest and most common issues I've had or repaired on 562's it would be the pull start pulleys. And the primer bulb & that little "s" tube to the carb

Most common thing I have repaired is welding the flywheel side brake flag mount back on.

I run 32” skip on a stock 272. Keep the chain very sharp it works well.

reason I’m not as skilled as some guys so it makes lining up cuts easier for me.
If someone could hands on show me how to line them up with shorter bars I may change setups but I’ve gotten used to it.

I honestly don't like shorter bars on my 70cc saws. I run a 20" full comp on my ported 50cc saw, my falling saws I just prefer 28"+ bars and skip. The 462r w/a 28" lightweight is just an easy to run saw, I don't have to bend over to cut and I consider a 24" bar to be the minimum for most of the trees it cuts.

Cutting trees like this gets old with a 20":View attachment 357242

I hear that brother. It's not near as productive to make a second cut where one is achievable. I just like less resistance and stress on my saws. 28" is what my 066 usually wears (aside from the occasional use milling)

That's a personal opinion. Even stock, my opinion is a 32" is on the long side for a 462. Locally, 24-28" is pretty common on 70cc saws.

Being a matter of opinion is for sure the case. I just like getting home before dark is all. We'll get your mail forwarded to you though... I jest, but hey man whatever works best for you is what you ought to use ehh.

LOL this opens up a fun opportunity, I run a 28 on my Husqvarna 565 in hard wood ( will drop a video in for evidence I guess ) Does that mean a 565 has more ass than a 462? You have to buy a 462 send it to Randy to get it to run like a 565? Lemecee how much would the finished product cost? How many 565's or chicom 395's if we need more power could we have for the same money? Be curious to see a cookie cut race between a $350 dollar g395 & a $1000 462 with a 28 inch bar & full house chain in hard maple. This is for FUN, but the question does bring up an interesting understanding.

First Job The Day I bought the 565 from Bob was a huge old maple to buck. Put a 28inch B&C on it and went to town. It wears either a 24 or 28 ever since. So FIRST video was day one job one. Second vidoe was a ash tree operation ( posted before somewhere ) but is the 565 with a 28 again. Still use it on maple now and then.

A Year Later & Ash In Kentucky

Not a fan of the 462, or any of the stihl saws that have a digit higher than 0 at the end. I'd never waste the money or time one having one ported. That said I could feel comfortable putting my 044 wearing a 28" bar against your 565 (Still prefer a 24" on It though) you'll forgive me for not re-watching your videos, I subscribe to your channel and they play in the background while I do shop work. I feel like you nailed it in the first video, it's not about being practical. On a production job site if you were running a 28" bar on a 70CC saw every job sat I've been on you'd be *s-word canned immediately it's called stealing. I understand wanting reach in certain scenarios for that we bring a bigger saw. Again all of this is a matter of opinion and your personal view on what production is. Me and my clan have always subscribed to the shortest bar we can get away with On the largest saw we got, within reason. I put a 9pin .325 rim on my ported 046 with an 18" bar, *s-word Dang monster trucks buddy it cut to beat hell. Another one of those it's not about being practical things though.

I always hear "if you were an any production job I was on" as if that is a definitive of somehow educational concept. For some it is I guess, here is the difference to those in that scenario and myself. I own my jobs and can do as I please as long as I either meet my standards or the customers. :) SO not constrained to standard defined by anyone but Me. Above was a pic of the truck leaving my job today. Great couple of fellows and the truck driver was . Excellent. I to as you folks also shoot for the least about of bar length but also a saw that works WITH me vs. me having to work around it. Hard to quantify, but I'm sure some out there will get it. The 565 is that saw for most of what I do off camera. That load above was done with a 394 project saw, Holzfforma g395, and the 562 with the 28inch Husqvarna colored Sugihara. Of the three? The g395 did the bulk of the last Three loads now. The 394 to 395 with a HyWay big bore it too much of a PITA for me to enjoy. And the 562 got all the off camera work the 565 didn't do actually for about a year or so now:) Enough saw and the 28 worked.

I've talked to some guys doing a federal land job 2 years ago, to circumvent the training of USDA regulations they only had pole saws and the big mechanical cutters. No actual saws.
How one company does something is about as different as men and women! Lol.
One thing I have noticed is that the timber industry produces most of the broken equipment I see in shops .

I'll get home first, you'll clean your 044 air filter 5 times for every time I have to clean the 462 lol.

More money earned with a g395 blue saw, more "doing" and less pontificating of the shape of a port is a good thing, love that skidder! Those saws are proving to be something that can be whipped into legit work saw from what I see. Cheap power. NOW lets see what folks say after a year or two :) Will they last?

Where is the best place to buy these saws from? I would prefer if it had been gone through first.

On a side note, all the timber crews around us have done away with chain saws. All cutting is done with heavy equipment. Of course, we are in fairly flat country.

I really don't know on the blue saws, I've just dealt with the online ordering and dialed in my own saws. On a funny side note , in a turn of events; the Blue saw earned enough to obviously pay for itself AND today came home with a 585 because I wanted one. AND the "blue" saw will prolly be the back bone of the next years operations as well because I don't want to scratch the new shelf queen :)

Hope it’s not a shelf queen, I’d like your take on it in your world

Yeah the 585 sure seams to have been overlooked by the 592, seems like I never really hear about it.
I'm definitely interested in what you think of it Walt ,even if its cutting cookies.

Perfect. And absolutely agree on this post & comment. One thing I've learned over the years is there is NO shortage of very smart people. And they will work out a system with what's available to tackle any task. Concept translates to saws and bar selection as well. I've "strayed" into longer bars because I am older. I need a bar to bore cut all the way thru most of the tree's so I run a 28 where as before I would hop around with a 20 and cut everything doing tree sushi if needed. Now....slow & steady , GOL bore cutting is the rule. On the 24-30 inch trees I've been cutting this last year.... a 28 is the lightest option and best for me. Next year? who knows.

So, Walt... G395 or G660? I'm gonna use an adapted bar, so the brand doesn't matter. Which would you send down to a busy firewood outfit to use?
Bear in mind I port and work on all my saws.
-Wes
