Lol! This is like an oil thread:D
Cant we just kill *s-word and get along? ;)
Im gonna stick with my “its all in the tuning” theory. I believe that older heavier aluminum arrows may have needed the longer vanes for stabilizing but with the carbons of today it seems more of a non issue. Tighter tolerances and smaller in general i think makes them fly truer over all. Bows r the same... u remember when u shot the ole wheel bow with some fattys and u let the buck of a lifetime walk away cuz it was at 26yds? And dont fuggin lie! U remember when u only shot at 20 yards for practice? Remember when u shot off ur first fletching? Cool right.....? Then u got a newer bow and went to carbons....started trashing fletchings...even cooler the first few times! Then u got over it and started practicing shooting a 5 ring instead of “i have to get it in the pie plate?”
Times change, equipment changes. We change, get better, better techniques, releases not fingers, stabilizers for better balance, sights that figure yardage for u, etc.
im just here for the kill pics now:D

I would spend $400-500 on a High Country or Oneida and think WTH. Now my son spends $1500 and up on a bow, now I just say you have lost your mind. Buy an Angus already wrapped, ready for your grill. I get it, no sport in that. What deer stand to use, remember my sons first, purchased a tree lounge, used it once and went down the road.

Not this year yet. Those are my son's bow harvests of past years. He is having a hard time hunting this year do to a divorce going on for two years. He sends me pictures of his deer taken and trail cam pics. That one hanging 8 point is heaviest deer he has taken, forget exactly what it weighed.

Yes I believe it. He looks like a cow. When the chest flow seamlessly into the neck shes a biggin! Lot of great deer pics! Thanks! Hope the divorce goes well, cant like that:(

I roll different ways with different bows

My Asiatic recurves get feathers and I shoot them with a thumb ring

My compound gets plastic and a Fletcher Flathead release

There is no one way

I picked up some supplies. I stuck with my 4 inch vanes. I think i will make myself a little workbench for down stairs to do this kind of stuff. Getting to cold to do it out in the shed lol.

Doing a test arrow. Its been a long time since i did fletching. Think it turned out pretty good. I kinda enjoy doing this stuff. Always makes a good rainy day project.

Always add just a little drop of glue to the very front of each fletching after they set up...if shooting at straw bales like many years past, or even worn out Block or worn out full size McKenzie/Delta-type targets nowadays, helps keep the vane from starting to peel back when you shoot through or have to pull the shaft through the back side of some targets.

So how do you guys strip your fletching and glue residue from the shaft. I have been using a dull knife and very carfully taking little bit off at a time then using a scratchy pad and a little nailnpollishbremi er of the wifes lol. Works ok but thers got to be a better way.
