Well...
good and bad,
The muffler didn't survive, tried to drill the stud out but couldn't stay on it and she never broke free. Eventually the guide the bolt was in twisted up and that was the end of that.
I cut the muffler flange adjacent to the gasket with a hacksaw so as not to damage the cylinder.
Couldn't pull the stud from the cylinder exhaust flange, so that got drilled and tapped after pulling the jug.

The good news is the cylinder is saved. It was beginning to score due to carbon in the exhaust port. The P&C will be used again.
If I hadn't pulled the muffler, she probably would have self destructed.

Found a set of operator and parts manuals on eBay.
Looks like many chassis parts are available.
I need to spend some time on that muffler and see if it can be salvaged.
Lots of cleaning to do as well.

Can you see how bad the hole is in the tank now that it's tore down?

I quit last night at midnight, didn't get that far.
From what I've been reading, there are several other models that will interchange.
I'm thinking about replacing the seals, fuel line, muffler (found one off of a 285 for $45 that I believe will work), muffler gasket, muffler bolts, and chain tensioner.
That way I can spread the cost out and get a feel for the saw.
Down the road I will look at repairing / replacing the tank and finding chainbrake parts.
All of this is subject to change at any time.

Good to know there are other options.
Doesn't appear that meteor makes a 298/2100 piston.

395 piston fits with machine work to the base and chamber. Makes even more compression though
Mike are you still set up to maybe do something like this?
