Just scored a 298XP!
Compression is stupid high, was told it runs but won't idle.
So far the clutch cover is stripped of all chainbrake goodies and the chain tensioner has only the screw and pin, nothing to secure them in place.
Hoping after a carb kit, clean & check to have a monster on my hands.
This is only the second husky ever on my bench, I know nothing about them.
Any input would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
Pics to follow.

Not yet, Jim.
Those bolts look crusty.
Compression feels real good.

One muffler bolt didn't cooperate. Rusted stuck in the muffler, broke the head off.
Should back out of the cylinder, just need to free the stud from the muffler without breaking the cylinder flange.

Try some heat from a propane torch.
