I tell customers I don't remove stumps but will cut them as low as "feasible". Usually that's 4" to 6" above grade. Higher if it's full of termites or ants. Cutting low (in the dirt) like that is hard on the saw, chain and operator.

My immediate impression of these K&H wedges as compared to a yellow Oregon that I was using is that these K&H are more dense, hard, and much heavier. They appear to be much higher quality.

I very seldom take a stump to ground level .This one I did with an old bar and a chain with about 2 more filings left in it
One of these days when tree work slows down I'll get my bud Tom to bring out his stump grinder and bucket truck .I can climb still even at my age but it sure is nicer out of a 63 foot Hi-Ranger ..

I use a wedge pouch. It holds three in it. If im not weraring it i just put them in my pockets.

The last tree i did i broke my two hard head wedges. I really wasnt impressed with them. I would not recomend them.

I stacked three on top of each other a couple days ago. Any advice on how to stop them from kicking the wedges out? Tree was dead standing. My stump wasn't very pretty but it was safe. Wedge would kick out at about twenty mile an hour it seemed. None of my wedges had enough lift. Tree was about 30 inch ish. Never had one kick out before but I figure that plastic wedge on a solid bone dry oak they probably just didn't bite the way they would in green wood. Anyone ever see that. I was using woodland pro and husqvarna wedges. They could have had a sharper taper for what I needed is why I stacked three

Used these yesterday. K&H had the most lift and finished lifting this one. I need to buy some more of them. The red head are too soft and don't lift as good.
