Wronghanders.....
I’m a little odd. I write right-handed but prefer shooting left-handed although I can shoot either way. Killed my 8-pt this year left-handed but the 10-pt right-handed....just whatever side they come out on.
As a kid I skate boarded, and water ski, left dominate same with shooting pool. Better at throwing a football or baseball right-handed. Filing chainsaw chains right-handed better but use both sides square ground/chisel filing. Definitely odd. Probably that’s why I like odd-ball cartridges.

Odd calibers … OK, I have both a 220 Swift and a 348 Win.

My cousin "inherited" both a Mdl 94 in 32-40 and a Remington pump in 280.

My uncle used to have (he passed) a Model 95 in 405, an Mdl 86 in 50-110, and a 6mm Lee Straight Pull Navy! Plus, the early Winchester semi autos in all 4 calibers! (I think 32 - 401?).

I also have a Browning repro of the Mdl 95 in 30-06, but the gun I used to drool over was my Aunt's original Mdl 95 in 30-06 that was done over by Griffin and Howe … I wish I could have afforded it when she sold it, but it was worth thousands back when I could not even think of spending that on a gun!

The 405 was the 375 H+H of it's day, but truth be known, Teddy never intended to shoot a Rhino with it, it was his "Lion Medicine gun". The Rhino just charged when he was Lion hunting and he had no choice!

But that pic did become famous! Many Texas Rangers and Rough Riders used the Model 95. Winchester wanted it to be a military rife (which is why it was chambered in 30-40 Krag, 30 Russian and 30-06), but it failed the US tests because the lever action was not good when shooting prone. It was one of the few lever action rifles that could shoot pointed bullets. For those who don't know, the 30-40 Krag (aka 30 US) was our military round in between the 45-70 and 30-03/30-06. Both the Krag and 30-03 used 220 grain round nose bullets, the 06 used a lighter pointed bullet that better replicated the performance of the Mauser rounds.

The fact that the box magazine precluded the gun from balancing well in your hand, and that it was relatively expensive, precluded it from gaining too much popularity. I always wanted to find one in 35 Winchester … that was a nice round … but never did find one I could afford! It is also only available to hand loader's, and has power similar to the 348 and 358 Winchester rounds. Brass is made by necking the 30-40 (a rimmed round) up to 35 and moving the shoulder forward by fire forming it. Basically, it is a 35/30-40 improved!

The Russians did adopt it, and more Mdl 95s were chambered in 30 Russian than any other caliber … but not many of them made it back!

Hugh Jackman used a Model 95 in the Movie Australia.

The Marlin in 45-70 is hard to beat. Take a cast 400 grain bullet that had a cigarette paper in the mold in the first 1/3 of the mold. When the bullet hits, the first 1/3 breaks off into two ragged projectiles that rips off at different angles while the remaining 2/3s powers through the game.

A rather decisive hit on an animal.

A bloke I ran into that was using his 45-70 on roos commented that the projectiles would just punch through the chest and not knock it down. After he tried the cigarette paper trick, he never had the problems with dropping the animal. A bit of overkill, but it is a trick the 'old guys' used.

A hand loaded 45-70 in a modern day lever action is a very formidable round … at least at moderate ranges. I would not want to push it past 150 yds, but all of the deer I have harvested have been within that range (I generally hunt in the woods).

not a 45-70 but close....my 450 marlin. Same diameter bullet close to same speed. This one is loaded with 405gr. JFN at 1975fps. Deer and wild hogs usually never move or leaves a huge blood trail.

Same difference, except you don't need to hand load to get the performance out of that! Even my CVA MZ shoots a saboted 250 gr 45 cal bullet at about 2,000 FPS, and it is very effective on deer.

I think I have taken 5 deer with it (hard to keep track as I hunt with rifle, bow, cross bow and MZ), 3 dropped on the spot and the other two only went 30 yds.

I asked my wife which looks better....right boots or left boots on all pairs. She said whatever you used on the right-footed boots looks better....which is the Mink oil. I’ll see which one holds up better after I use them several weeks in water, mud, and sawdust.

Wow, I see 2 Randall's and I can't read what the 3rd knife is.

And Rugers, I presume?

Good looking stag on all of em!
Other knife is a Lile (made in 1984-same knifesmith that made the knife for Stallone/Rambo in the First Blood movie). Both revolvers are Colt new frontiers.

Awesome Ron.

I knew the sideplates on the sixguns were different and one appeared to be large caliber while the other looks like a 22lr/22mag version, but I don't know much about single action sixguns. I always wanted a Colt sixgun but have never wanted to pony up the cash for one.

I know Glocks, HKs, and 1911s from a variety of smiths.

And I definitely know Randall and Lile.

You have a very nice collection there man!
