Was doing a husky 242 for a buddy of mine. The piston is scored and the ring is welded to the piston. Was going to take the piston off and ran into a situation that is hard for me to imagine. First for me. I looked for the ring and couldnt see one. Upon further inspection, I saw the ring but it looked like it wasnt even there. Nothing showing around the edges. Tried my hardest to somehow get behind it to pry it out, absolutely no go. Why the *f-word doesnt husky make a little divot in their pistons like Stihl so yoi can get behind the ring and pull it out. Had to grind it off to get the damm pin out. Anybody else run into something like that? I just did a 242 that I put a new piston in and it wasnt nearly that bad.

Al aka @drf256 gets a dremel to it. He did a build and forgot to do it and took some time getting it out.. I think the build was one of his 026 with a husky slug

ive never seen inside a 242, but husky circlips generally have a nub of some sort, just for that reason. is that not the original piston in the saw possibly?
Good possibility. He bought it from somebody overseas years ago. There aint no ears on this baby!! Come to think of it, the 242 I did recently the clips did have ears.

Thats what I did. Took a dremel to it. The first time I've had that problem.

I have seen that sort of pin clip on most of the OEM 42 and 242 saws iv been into . The clip will come out with a right angled pic and a small flat blade screw driver to stop the ring sliding round as you get the end up and out of the grove.

Someone put the wrong clip in the wrong piston. Very easy to not realize the need for possible removal one day.

I was making my own groove on one side or removal when using Stihl clips on a 272 slug. I just started using the meteor clips in the end.

My favorite type of circlips is the ones used in Echo saws, with two short ears that you just press together to remove. The Stihl type and some of the aftermarket clips are great for getting lost in the garage when you flip them out...

Remove inside a gallon plastic bag, problem solved.
