There may or may not be a greasy trucker cap in the tool box section below .
Mine has water and two rusty files in it..

I see the greasy trucker cap is key to keeping the water out..

Good call.

Any opinion on the relatively new theory that fire is hot?
Well now you've opened up a whole other can of corn.
Cause it can be hot a bit, but a whole lot hotter if you'd just cover up your wood pile.

To tarp, or not to tarp...

What if you're a logger?

I'd take a quick look at it, after all things do just wear out. If it looks like it failed prematurely due to the modifications I'd contact the original builder immediately and get them in the loop. Plus, shipping can be expensive and if its a simple fix I'd much rather have someone closer, who I know is more than capable, fix the saw and save the owner some money.

To go further, I have fixed things done by other porters that where an obviously mistake. I don't post any pictures or raise any fuss. I just make a mental note not to do the same myself and move on.

That's the best reply in this thread. I do it the same way myself. I've been inside modified saws from around 20 different builders, and most were good but a few were not. I just fix 'em and move on. I don't talk about it other than what the owner needs to know.
