You won’t have many saw issues with the cold besides the bar oil being thick and slow if you take the proper precautions and if it’s just the temperature you’re dealing with. It’s the snow at those temps that becomes a problem. Falling snow covered trees sucks as everything gets covered in snow, starts to get wet and then REALLY freezes. It’s a real pain in the ass lol

Mixed up 1/2 gallon of hp2 and Schaeffer 7000. Both 32:1. Interested to see if there is any separation/oil coming out of suspension.

Will let them sit out over night on west side of my garage. The wind blows across field and just pounds the west side of my garage.

Saw ready.

What additives are needed to get bar oil flowing.

I do think starting the m-tron would be interesting. Especially if you ran it and shut it down in the garage where it’s a bit warmer. See how much the huge temp difference affects it.

Just put some 911 in the bar oil lol

Man, that is cold! Even in the teens I notice my saws are a lot harder to start … I just can't imagine!

At 40 below and colder I kept the bar oil jug on the skidder beside the winch and fuel tank. Plenty warm there even at those temps. The snow would melt off the fuel tank from the heat the skidder put out from recyling the fuel from the engine. Our winter bar oil here is pretty thin, if the saw froze up first thing in the morning I just put it against the skidders exhaust outlet pipe running at half throttle for a few minutes. Once the saw's working the oil tank etc is plenty warm enough.

I found saws left over night in metal tool boxes had frost problems usually. I always kept them locked up in a wooden toolbox and never had a problem.

The cold temps you guys are copping are harsh, very similar to Antarctica. The heat is normally what gets in my way, not sure what's worse, 115° heat or -60° wind chills. :nusenuse:

I would say the heat is by far worse then the cold. As long as you dress appropriately, stay hydrated and keep moving you can stay warm (to a point of course). But with the heat it’s soooooo hard to cool down and stay hydrated, damn near impossible if you still have to work outside.

Back in the 2001 we had a heat wave come through while we were up north working. The temps would regularly hit the mid 40’s Celsius peak day. We ended up going to work at 4am to try and beat the heat but by 1pm-2pm it would get to be to much having to wear all the gear we’re required to wear (side impact hard hats suck in the summer) and would have to shut down. Work and hot weather don’t go together.

When I was in middle school we had a record temp at 122 here, that day I was out riding bikes and doing all my normal stuff. I love the cold weather but the heat is just as hard to survive if you aren't prepared.

Feel bad for you MidWest and Northern fellows.

It’s -2 here and everyone is in a panic. Nothing worse than the news anymore, they panic everyone and ruin my business.

I spend the day saying “Yeah, it’s winter. When it’s -10 and snowing in July I will find it interesting”. Sheesh , the news media is worse that the temps.
