The Husky dealer here is a 10, to get me to the Stihl dealer you would need a team of husky dogs!!
I dry heave at the thought of stepping in there!! And the Fers smile an grunt when they take your money!!
About the same as the OP first post.

Not many realize that dealers are forced to pay annual interest on stock if it doesn't sell. The way around it as a dealer is to pay up front to out right own the stock but then they run the risk of losing money after parts prices drop like stihl and husky both did with their cylinders and cylinder kits. There was no reimbursement and the dealers were forced to eat it.
There are many good dealers/people out there who don't deserve being criticized for not catering to private saw builders who compete with their business.
They also catch wind of negative feedback online and when they figure out who is who they 86 you from their shops.
I didn't even have to leave negative feedback to get bit by this.

I guess I'm lucky. Great Stihl (JD) dealer 10 minutes away. Parts guys actually know saws especially the guru guy who was saw tech for years. Most parts in stock. If not, no more than a week at most. Parts are a bit pricey. They know me by name.

Having everything in stock is impossible...even for saws.

I order everything(as long as i can reasonably expect to sell it) i am asked about even if they go purchase it elsewhere because i didnt have it. If its cheap or small i order 3-4 of em so i stand a chance of finding it 5 yrs from now when the next person walks in wanting it. You wanna guess what that attitude has gotten me, parts with 2" of dust on em because they have been here for 6 yrs and never touched but it does make that next person a very happy camper that i have it in stock.

My Stihl dealers pretty good. I just don't buy much Stihl stuff. Chain, links apart or two. Last time I was there without realizing it I walked in wearing the competitions t shirt. I apologized profusely to say the least. They were fine with it. You can bet if I ever have to have a Stihl product I'll get it from them.

One thing to consider.....a dealer may not stock parts for what you work on because they never see that model.

The old Stihl dealer i bought parts from was that way...Personally i was always pissed when i stopped in there needing simple parts for an 066 i was working on....A/V buffers and fuel lines seemed like a common thing that every stihl dealer should stock but they never had them, i always had to order and wait. Finally got aggravated enough i asked why they never had them even though i ordered them at least once a month. Turns out they had been selling stihl for 15 yrs and i was the only customer that ever bought those parts and they werent going to stock them with me being the only customer buying them. On the other hand i could go in there and tell them i need 10 carbs for an FS90 fully expecting them to need to order that many in and they walked to the shelf, carried out a case and counted out 10 carbs and sent me on my way. same thing if i wanted parts for a MS170...they had enough parts on the shelf to build a dozen from scratch.

I'm proud to say we are not like most shops. Customers call with the "dumbest" questions and we do our best to give answers that help our customer. The rest of the dealers suck around here. Hell...I guess I can't say that because I work for a shop so that would make me Bias. lol But when you have equipment coming to Your shop that another shop Just worked on....you must be doing pretty good.

We just got a call yesterday, guy had a Troy built gen set. 4 shops had worked on it already and he was trying to get Troy built to give him his money back because shop #5 started working on it(shop#4 gave it back to him and it wouldn't run) and found where one of the previous shops had broken the generator housing and JB welded it back together.... This was on a gen set that was less than a year old so he was understandably a little mad and for some reason Briggs thought I could help him in his quest to get his money back because they told him to call me. sometimes you just shake your head in amazement at what goes on at some places

I work at a tractor and OPE dealership in sales. We sell more than a dozen major lines (Case IH, Kubota, Gravely, Toro, Currahee Trailers, Yamaha, Polaris, G3 boats, Bush Hog, Landpride, Honda as well as Stihl and Husqvarna). It is impossible for us to stock everything a customer may need.

In order to keep costs down for the customer, we try to place orders large enough to get free shipping. For Stihl the threshold is $2500, we typically order weekly. If a customer wants it sooner we ask if they want to pay shipping.

We have sold one MS 461 and one 372 since I have been there, the rest are smaller saws. I am in a rural area, but most logging is mechanized and there is no demand for big saws. The 461 was a warranty replacement and the 372 went to a guy who crushed his.

I have several Stihl dealers within a 20 mile radius of me .One is 5 minutes away .I choose one who is 15 miles away who is also the largest Wheel Horse/ Toro dealer in the USA .

He orders parts twice weekly from Cincinnati .I seldom have to wait over several days for parts .

Stocking dealers for Husqvarna are almost non existant in this area due to a power play they tried on local dealers some 20 years ago .Those I get from a stocking dealer in North Carolina .Husky kind of chit in their mess kit so to speak in this area .

Your dealer is awesome. Mine don't seem to have any interest in anything like that.

The gent who owned the dealership I use is a hoot .He because of franchise agreements cannot modify saws and sell them but he knows I can .I've been in that shop buying chain for the 200T's and the counter girl is trying to sell me carbine impregnated stuff .He just laughed his butt off when he heard her spiel and very kindly told her she wasn't dealing with the average person .She got a little red in the face over that one .I just smiled .

I know for a fact one of the biggest logging outfits between me and you is still running 064's at least with its single hardwood crew. Why? cause they almost never use them.
