Just picked up another bike. 2000 yz250. Needs one of everything. Got good bones though.

Man this thread took me back way back. 1978 or 79 Yz 125 with a copper ring head gasket. The Mono shock days. 1992 Cr250 felt like a pillow compared to tht.
Gots a 76 yz100 I need to do something with. Would like to rebuild her with a 125 top end

I agree. No green, no orange.
There's another black and yellow in the other corner of my garage. May add a green one to the collection at some point. Idk about orange... maybe a 2 stroke. Yz rebuild will probably take me all winter. It's got a wiseco crank in it. Found out they are garbage so ordered a used oem crank. Cylinder is on its way from cylinder works.

So... got some of the issues sorted out with the rm. Neck bearings are done and front tire. The rear shock was leaking so I took it apart and found someone had dickered up the threads on the shaft. Put on a new seal head and put a new nut on. Was able to tighten nut but, like two threads left on shaft so I hot glued it to keep it together. Riding it the top end wasn't very smooth so I cleaned the carb and put a 175 main in it from a 158. Ran like complete dog crap so I dropped the needle and it cleaned up. Will switch to a smaller main and move needle back up. My kickstarter had a hairline Crack in it and now it is almost completely broken. Can't seem to find one for under $200 which is absurd. So... hot gluing that is beyond my capabilities but, my buddy might be able to weld er up. Got a new clutch on the way.. ordered a cylinder for the yz from cylinder works and sent it back. Looks like a darn farmertec jug. Ordered a new oem one and it looks . Got two oem used cranks to choose from. Going to order new seals, bearings and a wiseco piston. Going to get as much new hardware and stuff that I can.

Aren’t old bikes fun? Sounds like she could use a full rebuild, the bike is worth it! Stock Jets should work perfectly if everything is right. A 175 is a big jump on a stock bike. What was it doing in the top end? If it’s a little surgey and falling on his face it’s lean.

It was very blubbery and wouldn't hit the powerband with the 175 until I dropped the needle all the way and then it ran perfect. Just looked up fmf's jetting specs and they say 162-165. Bike has a gold series on it. So a 165 and 3rd position on the needle will probably be correct jetting. I'll try that. Currently trying to find a kicker.

Not sure that it needs a rebuild but, I'll probably pull it apart and put a piston in it. From the ex port everything looks good. No idear last time she was rebuilt but, appears to have a wiseco in it.

What was it doing with the stock jetting? It may have just needed a carb clean to. Good luck on finding a kicker! I had an RMZ4 50 that broke a kicker as well, it must be a common issue with Suzukis, good bike though

Only reason I was asking is, the stock jetting should work fine if everything is stock, if it needs a re-jet, then chances are it probably could use crank seals as well or has a leaky gasket somewhere. If it has an aftermarket pipe that needs to be jetted accordingly. They are super good bikes! Definitely worth the extra effort to make sure everything is good. I love 2t, Hope you can get her 100%

I didn't ride it much with the jet that was in it (158) but, it seemed like it was kinda lean.. didn't sound quite right.. it had sat for a while so I cleaned the carb and put a kit in it. Cleaned the fuel valve and put new seals in it. Neck bearings were trashed so it got new ones. Shock seal was leaking so it got replaced and put honda ss25 oil back in. Took it to a shop and had them fill it with 165psi of nitrogen. New air filter. It actually runs quite well with the 175 and dropped needle. I was actually surprised that dropping the needle a little could have such a huge effect.. Front tire barely touches the ground now haha. New clutch plates and springs are on the way. (Doesn't like to go in gear and dies when you try to stop) probably dress up the grooves on the basket with a file and put it back in. If it looks notched. Front wheel has 5 or 6 spokes that are loose but will not tighten down as they are seized. Will have to fix that at some point. Lacing and truing is time consuming lol.

I plan to have the rm in good running condition soon. The 2000 yz250 is going to be a total rebuild. Seeing as the dealer wants 10k for a new yz250x.. I think I can build a badass yz for far less.

A lot of times the inner clutch hub is to blame creeping in gear. Filing the outer basket, and replacing the inner is in order.

Inner didn't look too bad. Took a lot of filing to make the basket smooth again. Has a ton of play inbetween the actuator and pressure plate. I ordered a new actuator. It is like at the end of it's travel before it starts to push on the pressure plate... May end up shimming it if the actuator doesn't fix it. Got my new t.m. designs skid plate on the rmz.
