I'm looking for some ideas on how I can blow off all the crud on saws without having it go everywhere.
I normally blow the saws off at the shop without having to worry much about where all the oily sawdust goes but it's a pain in the neck to because I do most of my repairs in my basement. I'm tired of having to drive to the shop after grinding or more dismantling. So I brought a compressor home and now I'm trying to figure out how I can set up a spot to capture the crud. I was thinking something like a sandblast type of setup but I'm not sure that will work good because it will probably just swirl all the stuff around.
I know the easiest solution is to do the repairs at the shop but if I do them at home the wife can't complain that I'm never here.

That's a very good idea but then I would need to set up a drain and water system.

Why not just get a hose long enough to go outside. Do you have a walkout basement?
That was actually the original plan when I brought the compressor home but after a little more thought, I really don't have any good place to blow it because it would look like an oil slick every time it rained.

How many are you going to be blowing off? I doubt you'll see a sheen of oil on the grass if your only doing it once in a while.

Good idea. Like a refridgerator box or something. Try your local hone depot or Lowe's and ask them if they have any that haven't been crushed and baled yet.

I have a old sheet of plywood that leans outside entry door from the building to a post. I hold saw on the other side and blow off with air hose usually nobody walks there.
Maybe a bunch of noodles/sawdust would be good for the grass:confundio:to help soak it up.

I actually work on quite a few saws and I know the spot at the shop that I blow them off is one hell of an oily mess.
I think i'll try the box idea and if I really want, I could possibly hook up the shop vac to suck it out while I'm blowing the saws off.

I use the tail gate of my truck. Just be sure to park far enough away so the blow back doesn't fling oily smoogers all over your siding :cursing:

I think you guys have the right idea. If I dry up most of the oil it should be fine. I don't really care about the sawdust getting blown outside but mixed with the bar oil it really makes a hell of a mess. My least favorite part of working on saws is getting them clean enough to work on in the first place.

I just blow mine off in the drive way. (Gravel) this problem sounds more like a subdivision problem so I cant help. I live in the country and I still use old oil from car to kill the weeds in the drive.
