I added 2 razor blades to stop it from falling out and I wonder if it's the original simmering with a rubber ring on the outside. Now it works properly 😎👍 This engine has a muzzle anyway 😉 1.5KW 53cc

Interesting times on the bench this week. My wife told the neighbor that I like to fix things. Next thing I know is I have a Dolphin s200 pool cleaner on the bench.

It’s a pretty basic machine with the motor assembly housed in a sealed casing. The neighbor was quoted $800 to replace the motor or purchase a new one from the pool shop for $1100.

I got into the motor casing and it’s got 2 motors, one for the drive tracks and one for the impeller, a control board, and a servo to control direction.

Plugged everything up and the motors spin okay. I found out that this unit does a self-test on start up, this seemed to be failing. Eventually narrowed it down to the servo unit which didn’t move freely. Just a guess at this point. The servo has a lever attached and is sealed by a double lipped seal, much like on a lot of OPE. The seal itself is exposed to water and I found rust all around it.

I found the servo on Amazon (2 for $11) and a 20x10x7 oil seal for $5. Parts should be here today so fingers crossed. The servo is a generic unit used in rc cars and drones.

After ordering the parts I opened the servo and confirmed this thing was toast. The board was burned up.

Do you know if they leave it in the pool 24/7 or only when they run it?

Not sure on that one. The motor casing did not appear to have any signs of a leak.

The seal is installed with the back side of it facing to the outside (where it would contact water). Bit of a poor design.

Here is where the seal was pressed in:

And the orientation of the seal:

I think this saw design killed Disston's future as a chainsaw manufacturer. You rarely see one that's worn out from use.
Carl liked to try different things, sometimes it worked other times it didn’t. He also designed one of the most reliable and fastest chainsaw engines for the allied forces in ww2. He liked to make some unique carbs for some of his outboards also.

Chlorine did a number on it. Pool tech told me those things will last if you only have them in when you run them but if you leave them in the most expensive ones will spring leaks in a year or two. I'm surprised how cheap the replacement parts are. One O ring for our hot tub was $11.
Might be some money to be made repairing $1000 pool robots.

I've been working on getting the Clinton CS424 back together, see post 35,543 for the beginning of this project. According to Acres site and some other information I dug up, these saws were yellow and black. Since the starter was red when I took it apart I stayed with that, body of the saw is yellow, and the AF cover is black.

Interesting ignition concept on this saw, the magnet is built into the laminations and there is a steel insert in the flywheel that causes the magnetic field to move across the windings. We have spark.

I ran into issues with some of the delicate brass fittings used to send the pulse signal to the fuel pump diaphragm in the tank. Supposed to look like this...

...1/2 of the fitting broke.

I tried to make up a replacement from a 1/4-28 screw and 5/18-24 nut to match the original part.

Unfortunately I did not have the technology to secure the nut in place since the steel line was somewhat deformed.

It seems to run better than the Kawasaki 2KW, it has a strato engine and higher head speeds

There, a 3mm line will clog the engine, a better one would be 2.7mm
