What's on your bench?

I saw the upside down lid to the fuel tank and thought "Ohhh a D44"!! What is on the inside of the lid to the fuel tank, is that corrosion or a coating? I don't see it in the bottom half and I didn't have anything like that on the two fuel tanks I have.

Edit: Nevermind, I read your post in the McCulloch section where you explained what it was.

D 44 is an agricultural trailer with a load capacity of 3T I have one just like that 50 years old

The 288xp is now a finished product. Put the correct filter elbow on it, new air filter, new trigger assembly, fuel line and filter, a muffler, and old school 28” bar and chain. Runs and idles great. Now it’s time to get it into some wood!

Well guess WTF is on the bench again. You guessed it.



I ran the 288xp today and made some cuts, but shut it down when I began to hear a knocking sound. Turns out the piston pin had spun out in the piston itself and was fitting loose in its holes. The piston was basically loose on the pin. I just ordered a Meteor and a set of 6203’s. I guess I’ll split the case and re-do this one. Anyone have an extra crankshaft for one of these? There was glitter in the case and I don’t trust the big end bearing anymore. Oh well…

Had that happen with a new build. Don't feel dumb. At least no dumber than me.

I had a Kawasaki in my trimmer and all I had to do was move the connecting rod on the bearings. Someone was driving too lean or without oil, the piston was slightly worn and the connecting rod couldn't handle it
