What would you do? Piston issues...

I recently purchased a piston for my 041 on fleabay. The title had OEM in it. It was cheap - I thought score! Got it today, and it looks like a cheap knockoff to me. The biggest issue is one side of the piston has the hole drilled for the pin off center. I am assuming this thing is trash. Enlighten me with your thoughts and knowledge... I would assume OEM, even OEM replacement, would have some markings on it. This thing is blank...

Could be casting shift and have no impact to the part. Hows the other side?

Off a little, but not quite as bad. EBay item number 201405883716 I did not pay a lot of attention to the pics. I saw OEM and hit buy...

any casting marks to indicate manufacturer? id do a bit of measuring from pin hole to top and bottom. could be an optical illusion....but maybe not.

Not a single one. I am fairly certain it is a poor Chinese copy... It was in a yellow box. It looks like the guy bought it for the rings and circlips and offloaded the rest. Inside the box was the piston and wrist pin only. That didn't bug me since I bought Caber rings from @Definitive Dave already anyway.

I would just notify the seller, and ship it back. You know better than to mess with it. Buyers often have more clout than sellers on ebay, send her back....

send it back, be firm and polite, if there is any resistance from the seller just open a case with Ebay and follow their instructions "item defective or damaged"

Just checked it out. I don't believe it is OEM. OEM pistons usually come with the rings installed.

There is no doubt that it is not OEM in my mind. The machining is way too crappy. No markings at all, other than the arrow on top of the crown.

I already bought a replacement piston from HL Supply. They happened to be on sale anyway...

eBay will always take the buyers side. So will credit card companies. Unfortunately, even if the buyer is wrong.

Two good things here. 1. Your only out $10 2. The seller has a good feedback rating. The last negative feedback he received, was posted before a refund was made.

The add does imply that it's OEM, but look at that picture.

Always give the seller a chance to make it right. Maybe he really did not know.
If a customer is nice about it I'll help him out, even if it's his fault. When they call with the attitude, no can do.

I paid too much for the saw. I did a comp check and it was low. Ordered the Cabers. Pulled the saw apart when the Cabers got in and found out that the piston was roached. Went to eBay to check out how much more this was going to set me back and saw a listing for an OEM piston. I bought it so fast it would make your head spin... I didn't pay much attention to the picture - also - in my defense - I did it all from my cell phone...
