5,000 max in the old junk I own/owned, used to do 3,000 in the 88 Ranger with 250,000 on the 2.9L. 200,000 on the 98 WT with the 4.3. I know modern oils is good, but not that good IMHO, and to me the proof in in the pudding.[emoji6]

Ok. Ok. I change the filter at 12k

Cool down a little or do you want to divorce from your car too?
Castrol is a very good oil

That car is long gone, was not worth repairing. I don't drive as much now, but try to change every 5-10,000 with full synthetic.

I believe full synthetic is better at 15,000 miles than conventional is at 3,000. Conventional oil breaks down, synthetic does not (or at least, not nearly as fast).

I use Mobil 1 5w 20 in my CRV. Take it to garage they supply oil Honda filter and labor. For $45.00 I can’t crawl under it and do it myself for that. Change it at about 5000 miles. 1.5 turbocharged runs great easy on fuel.

I go 8500k with a 6.4 Hemi using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum synthetic. Could go farther but i pull our 14k lbs 5th wheel 1500-2k a summer on multiple trips so i like to keep the oil fresh.
I couldn't live with that! Even if oil analysis says the oil is fine, the cost just isn't that great, + it makes me feel better [emoji5] + I keep my wheels forever.

No one?????

I tried it once. By the time you factor the costs of filter changes and synthetic oil and a little extra oil to top it off after filter changes it’s a wash on changing it every 6k miles with whatever diesel oil is on sale. You can run some of the synthetics like valvoline premium blue 10-12k before it does need changing in pre EPA trucks. These new ones are lucky to make 7500 before the oil is contaminated by fuel.

When I bought a new Datsun 280Z in 1978 I ran the engine on the original petroleum motor oil for 5,000 miles. Then I changed to Mobile 1 synthetic. The hype was you could use it for 25,000 miles, but I changed it at every 20,000 miles.

At 84,000 miles, I decided to 'rebuild' it with flat top pistons (up from 8.4 to 9.5 compression). When I pulled the pistons I was surprised to find that the TOP ring had not fully seated itself. It looked like the cylinder and rings had only run 5,000 miles!

I put it back together with the higher compression pistons and NEW rings. My brother had the car at that point and it was using oil. - So, he drained the Mobile 1 and put in some petroleum oil. The rings seated and he went back to Mobile 1 synthetic.

Sorry but I have to call BS here my friend. All manufacturers recommend breaking in engines with full synthetic. Synthetic oil doesn't lube better, it's just more stable, has better viscosity range, and often better additives. Was Mobil synthetic even available in 78? I don't remember really seeing synthetic oils until The late 80's. The myth of rings not setting because of the oil is just that, something else was at play IMHO.[emoji111]
