I have read that years ago.. Redline is the only oil I would tell anyone to never run. The base stock when combined with a little water turns carb brass black, corrode cranks,.etc. truly terrible stuff.
(I could be wrong) but never saw (40+yrs) any black brass UNTIL they came out w/ E-gas; I would more suspect the problems/ corrosion you saw came from ethanol/ water. I also had NEVER seen chalky white deposits until E-gas, and they were in my Tecumseh carburetor (black plastic w/ stainless); that was when I switched to pure gas ONLY for my small engines.

(WHAT I WANT TO SEE) on a label is "Synthetic" and the rating of "FD" & ""LEG-D" for JASO and ISO standards. Echo Powerblend meets this, and (I assume at this point) that other (Name Brand) synthetics do also. Echo 5-yr consumer warranty and experiencing good results is what convinced me.
RESULTS I WANT to see are: 1) No carbon buildup; 2) No varnish; 3) No cylinder or piston skirt scuffing/ scratching; 4) No locked down/ sticky rings.
I would NOT be afraid of Lucas or Redline, Stihl, Husqvarna, nor any other major brand, but would only only use Non-synthetic if no choice in a pinch. I actually am surprised that Stihl still sells BOTH?

Never run ethanol fuel and this was prior to my state have RFG.
Redline carries no certifications if that's important to you.

1) What is RFG?;
2) (I have never used RL), but Redline Two-Stroke All-Sport says (excerpt)
"Recommended for high-performance stock or slightly
modified engines and where ISO GD, JASO FC, or API TC lubri-
cants are recommended, but is not designed for outboard use."

yep good stuff hard to find around here anymore.
Talking ABOUT Lucas, read website article about marine ethanol problems. I thought aviation and marine (dock-side pumps) were all Pure-Gas? True/ Not true for marine? or was the bass-pro buying his fuel at his local auto gas station?

Most fishermen I know, including myself, purchase gas at the automotive pump. Not at the dock.

Reformulated gas.
Any company can say what they want, but until and oil is tested and certified it's pretty meaningless. It's not.uncommon for smaller companies to claim they meet conflicting standards that are impossible to meet with one formulation.

And one not her thing about the Redline marketing piece. What they are doing is equating thermam stability with suitability or quality and this is misleading at best. It is very easy to design a fluid that would exhibit very high thermal stability and would pass through a two cycle motor mostly unburnt. That doesn't mean it's desirable.
