On an average tank of fuel in a CR500 what are the rpms in the most abusive application?

Depending on the porting, around 6-9000.
When you start getting carried away with the porting the piston speeds soar and you don't gain that much power. You do wear parts out much quicker, especially if you remove the exhaust port bridge.

You can always justify another saw.

The guy that does most of my motors(Eric Gorr) built CR-500 ' for GP racers Jorgen Nilsson and Leif Persson of Sweden, Rob Herring and Mark Eastwood of England, Jacky Vimond of France, and Peter Dirkx of Belgium.
My current bike has a cylinder done by Tom morgan, who was Jeff Wards engine builder/mechanic.
Gorr's CR-500 MX motors have epoxy in the transfers and lower compreaaion heads to tame the hit along with a higher exhaust port to help the bike rev above its stock power peak of 6500 rpm. I prefer a hard hitting bike that barks so I forgo the epoxy and try to replicate the 86 and 87 bikes.
Gorr, is one of the best in the 500 circle. The bikes after 86-87 were definitely toned down a bit.

Never ridden a 500. But like above, I'm guessing rpm doesn't matter much.

On the dirt having too much power can be a disadvantage too on enduro circuits. I had better results on a KDX200 that was light & small that could use the throttle to deliver a speed increase or maintain it rather than throwing a rooster tail of dirt at the touch of the throttle. The heavier flywheel weight of an enduro bike compared to a MX helped this. I love bikes. I'd like one of the new KTM 300exe's?? the enduro model, they look kinda fun.

The type of riding I do most closely resembles desert racing. Hence throttle control and traction or less of an issue given the speeds are pretty high.
A 500 can be a superb Enduro bike with a heavy flywheel, the right pipe and porting/head work.

The 300 KTM'S have a very seamless, smooth power curve. Great Enduro bikes, but too sedate for what I do.

I ran 5 tanks of scaheffers @ 25:1 to see if it could clean up the klotz mess. Looks like it good a great start to cleaning things up! What a mess though! ( Klotz super techniplate mess - http://opeforum.com/threads/what-oil-is-best-and-what-ratio.98/page-353#post-153127 )

missed the jug pics so you'll have to watch the video. I was @tree monkey 's having a few good laughs as well. :D

Might be a good idea to post the AT pics also so they can be compared.
How did it run at 25:1?

The cr500 engine is a vibrating sob when put in a quad frame .Arms go numb in minutes .
Crank balancing helps greatly as does a lighter piston like the new style Wiseco pro lite. Mine had a Vertex in it and it was a paint shaker. Vertex is about the heaviest piston you can run on a cr 500.

I included a link back to the klotz super techniplate.

25:1 - little smokey at first but mtronic figured out after a couple of cuts. Other than the smokey at first it ran great.
Good oils run good at low ratios as they should.
The schaeffers I am running in my lawnboy, which isn't the same stuff you have, appears to burn pretty dirty. The piston actually looks like black glass and the smell is nasty too. I'm going to pitch the rest and try to get the stuff you have.
