exactly that is the only reason we have ethanol from corn in our gas. i have been saying it for years.
It even goes deeper than that. We have it because the government wants less oil used and they subsidize it. They call it saving the planet. The government pays the ethanol plant's to make ethanol. If they didn't, we would have ethanol free fuel, or, the price of corn would be higher.

It's another government gimmick that's a waste of tax payers dollars.

What does alchemy and monopoly have in common? Corn. The US is the worlds leading producer of corn by far. Between using it as fuel, food, feed, or making plastics it's just good business for America to subsidize it when it's used in every facet of the economy. As long as there is choices (stations that have non-ethanol along with the ethanol blended fuel, food with sugar instead of HFCS) it don't bother me. What you spend your dollars on has always been the only vote that counts. But then the Bankers of the world are divesting in oil and want the world all electric by 2030 including your money, so there is that.
Electric won’t happen, but friends of friends pockets will get lined in the obvious failure of a process. Scam scheme

Butane is the main additive for winter blend gasoline and is not soluble in water.
Figures. Maybe just loosen the cap for a few days and leave the jug in the sun. Seems to boil at a very low temp.

Its a rather concerning deal. Another thing, all this subsidization hurts the economy. If it can't stand on it own feet and has to be funded so it can stand. Well that's a bad investment. It then becomes detrimental to the economy. Why do you think USA is so far in debt. Poor spending habits.

Time for me to stop before I cross from talking economy to talking politics.

I use 91 in all my small engines due to no ethanol. If we had 87 non ethanol I would run that.

I've got some news for these dreamers. The electrical infrastructure currently utilized (at least here in the us) can not handle even close to the load proposed by companies manufacturing or attempting to manufacture these vehicles.

I believe Musk said that the grid won't support even 10% of EV use.

So I tested this today. My saw was running like garbage, very hard to start and wouldn’t idle. I cracked the tank and sure enough, the gas was boiling in the tank. So at lunch I took the cap off and left the saw in the sun for about 45 minutes. I screwed the cap back on, primed, and started first pull. Idled perfectly the rest of the day, cut great too. Easy solution to winterized gas?
