I was thinking about starting thread about the A10 thunderbolt 11
And it’s already on the way Hopefuly you all will send some stories

We occasionally get A-10’s in at Robins AFB where I work...most stop to re-fuel and get back in the air and on their way fairly quick. Have had some inbound with IFE’s (In-Flight Emergencies) on occasion and they’ll get checked out thoroughly/parts replaced/avionics checks, engine checks, etc and back in the air as soon as possible and back to their home bases.

Our 402 AMXG Maintenance Group on the flightline handles Depot Level maintenance on C-17’s, C-5’s, C-130’s, F-15’s, EC-8 JSTARS, and un-manned RQ-4 Global Hawks.

The A-10 is without a doubt the finest troop/ground cover/ground attack aircraft in the inventory...no other aircraft can perform what that gun with wings can do.

The A-10’s where over here in the early 80’s but went out to Germany
81st squadron came back 4-5 yrs ago when the air base was being renovated
And they trained 8n the valleys and mountain over here mostly in Wales
Over here in the mountains and valleys The hard deck was 300ft
Which was perfect for the thunderbolt

where as in Germany and Benelux the minimum flight level is 1000ft

Listen to this vid. You can hear the whistle/whine of the engines.

yes you can hear it , on one video it said the cannon had more thrust than the engines and it could stall if it ran for too many seconds

the inventor of the Gatling gun would be stoked to see how it has progressed to this 30mm monster

We go to Canon Range just south of Ft Leonard Wood in South Central Missouri when they have an open house. They have a variety of aircraft dropping inert ordinance on various targets and multiple strafe passes from A-10's and other aircraft. The A-10's have two main targets. One is a huge bullseye target over a sand pit with sensors in it to record the accuracy of the pass. It's stretched between two telephone poles. The other is an APC in the center of a target area. At the end of the day they take a trip around the range for spectators to view the damage to the APC. That poor thing looks like Swiss cheese. I think my most memorable moment was an extremely low level pass at full afterburner by a B1b.
Here's a short clip on the range of a couple of A-10 passes.

We used to go to all the local shows, best being Andrews AFB.

I’ve listened to a few videos is it right they’ll still come home with one engine down and broken wings , other body parts shots up and non functional landing gear
