I’ve listened to a few videos is it right they’ll still come home with one engine down and broken wings , other body parts shots up and non functional landing gear
A-10’s can take an amazing amount of damage to flight controls, one engine out, etc and still return to their Forward Operating Base or base they left from in theater.

Albeit a completely different animal and time...B-17 Flying Fortress bombers back in WWII, especially the ‘G’ models, could take some serious engine damage/flight control damage, just riddled with fighter machine gun damage, and still return to their bases in Europe after bombing missions.

Watching just two A-10's concentrate on a target area during practice was interesting. The target was either strafed or had a BDU-33 practice bomb dropped on it every 30 seconds. After about 10 passes each, they broke away and another pair of A-10's would engage the target. It's said that 80 percent of the 30mm rounds hit within a 40 foot circle. That would make up a pretty bad day for the opposing side if it were real life.

My air support order of preference 1969:

Cobra gunship
Huey gunship
A1E Skyraider

Phantom (chits got to be hitting the fan)

Yeah, Carl, I'm sure that the A1-E could turn around a hopeless situation quickly as well as watching brass shower out of a UH-1 Huey.
This Skyraider shows up at quite a few air shows.

Having a Skyraider come over at treetop level then engauging a target is amazing. I have only seen this in live fire demostrations but i can see how it could change it minds of an aggressor quick.
When hunting in Ft. Stewart Ga. in one area near a live fire range we would find lines of brass from gunship runs. Just reach down and pick up a handful. This was back in the 1970s when lots of helocopter training was going on.
Along the river near the edge of Stewart are old rice fields which veteran pilots said looked very close to areas in Vietnam. They used them for low level flying training.

Here a pic I took of one that flew over me while working on my garage lean—to in the spring. Zoom in to compare silhouette.

Without a doubt the OP's pic is an A-10. I never could zoom the original pic to get a decent look at it without it immediately getting blurry...but the wing profile is def A-10. I can certainly see others' take on it as well with varying aircraft models.

You sure it’s not a B-11? That tail is throwing me off of an A-10. :roto2lol:

How long can we keep this thread at the top? :roto2nuse:
