You do realize that there is a saying "German over engineering" don't You.
And even though most of it is made in China, Stihl is hopefully still German engineered - not that I care anyways.

You forgot to specify "German automotive"! ;)

A bit hash, no?!

It is a different mental approach into designing a product.
It can be a good thing when it "is built like a tank", yet it can have its downsides when it comes to maintenance.

I finally got fed up and switched to Echo. The quality is every bit as good and much easier to work on when needed.
Echo has their share of mistakes, but usually they quit the stupidity after a bit. Stihl has been making the dumb clamshell-handle trimmers (FS55 and 56) for way too long. And although MS250's are decent saws, replacing a handle on them or removing the cylinder is far too hard.

If I remember right, Porsche and VW group vehicles use some 5-point-star torx fasteners so special that it's difficult to find tools to fit them. Why??
We joke that the engineers of these products should be sent to a concentration camp where all they do is work on the stuff they design.

The special fasteners are to keep people that think they know what they are doing from doing what they think they should do.

Most of the time the component with the 5 point torx has no serviceable parts available so it's really not a big deal to not have the torx 5 point socket.

Try a 045/056. I hate working on them. The 050/51/75/76 is not much better.

Now a Contra/070/090 is easy peasy.

Ok if your German no offense but why do y'all design things to be so complicated.
(My most favorite person in existence is German. That man saved my life and I plan on naming my first son after him,if I ever have a kid) i know im still extremely new to 2 stroke out door equipment but #1 the front handle assembly to a a ms271 is somewhat annoying when needing to remove #2 the copious amount of bolts on the fs56c that clamp the plastic around the engine and shaft my Husqvarna 4 screws on 2 sides the engine comes out, 56c 12 on shell 3 on starter. #3 accessing the the carburetor on a 660 and currently # ms250..... The tank vent!!!! Why?? Just why? That makes absolutely no sense to me. What benefit does that design provide the tank vent with?-

You should start a YouTube channel.

I'm working on an 075 right now, you are correct, it is a different beast, have to pull everything apart just to get to the piston.
They are a "beach" and not as in the beach a gentleman might find some fine mature ladies that are the age of the saw.

Do it Bill! You could title your channel:

Ramblings with Bill

Adventures with Bill G

A Word with Bill

Fireside with Bill

Damn it, more Bill

You could even make opening credits using some cheesy late 70's game show music!

😂
I am not sure exactly how to take that comment. :confundio1:

I hear this about five times a week, " is this worth repairing" ( mostly means I am very cheap) there is no good answer that I ever came up with in thirty 30years.
Just say "No it is not!".

Anyone asking whether something is worth fixing already made up their mind what they intend to pay which is usually not much.
