G'day all I was back on my 460 today because I have a problem with my 461 I can't tune it right , idle and lower set correctly when I try and tune the high you can either run it at 12,400 or 14200 when you try and tune between there nothing happens it's nearly half a turn no change and then all of a sudden she starts screaming .
Thanks in advance for any help .

Try overhauling the fuel system. That might help, but unfortunately it sounds like you may have an air leak.

I hate them HD50’s. I’ve had nothing but problems with them.

If your idle is correct, I doubt it’s an airleak. It would have to be massive to make the saw scream at WOT.

It’s usually lack of fuel that does that. The saw will be ok to a certain rpm and then take off once it starts pulling lots of air.

Like CURV says above, go through fuel system. I’d check tank vent, line, filter, impulse, and pull both side off the carb looking for issues. Pressure test the carb too.

I should also have stated this saw is new and has only done 8 hours work in 2 years .
And the problem really only became apparent when I put an unlimited coil on it, the saw has only ever been run on 95 octane zero ethanol.
And has been looked after in the same manner as my 460 and 261 and they have never given me any probs in 8 1/2 years

Did you drill the main jet, as in randy's 461 thread..?

it maybe a while before he (the boss @Mastermind ) tells us why he told us to drill it in the first place. As he’s off for a weekend drivevacation. Maybe he will pop in to check up on us

otherwise I’d be keen to know, as I’ve one or two saws that do similar things, ie 044 and a 026

Nope no drilling funny thing is at or below 12400 it ajusts perfect and this is repeatable every time it's like between 12400 and 14200 as you're screwing the needle in it's not moving in and then all of a sudden it just go's bang straight to 14200 and you can keep on adjusting above 14200 if you're game enough it's just like for 2000rpm the needle just doesn't move weird s***

Diaphragms could be a little stiff. Even if you run non ethanol it’s a smart idea to run the saw dry/dump the gas if you aren’t going to run it for more than a month or two.

Jet needs no drilling. Swap filter and pull carb apart.

I get the exact same issue on 036 I port. Any small issue in fuel supply and it runs away.

Might be a chunk of debris in the H circuit. Try removing everything from the carb and spraying it out
