There's a trick to everything but often with differing opinions how it should be done .One method for bearings with a plastic cage is to heat the entire bearing in hot oil after first freezing the crank .Then toss the whole shooten match in the freezer . After it's good and cold heat the bearing pockets and pop them in place which usually works .
With a metal cage you can either install the bearings on the crank or in the pockets then heat the inner race with a big soldering iron and install the frozen crank which is the method some Stihl manuals suggest .I've done it both ways .I really don't think smacking them with a BFH is the answer .

Thanks everyone. I heated the case, tapped out the old bearings. Heated the case a little more and the new bearings went in half way. I then used a bolt, nut and washers to pull them in the rest of the way.

Rambling on I never figured out why Stihl used a heat shrink fit as opposed to a press fit except for the Germans being anal about things .They make a good product which I can't deny but so does Dolmar which are press fit .No matter which, press or heat shrink you don't want to strong arm them and mess up a ball or two which the bearing will indeed fail sooner if not later if you do .With clean ample lubrication a ball bearing should last almost indefinetely .

I like the 460 bar studs, just make sure you either use a 460 chain cover, or drill the stock one a little.
