I think no matter what personal privacy is given up by upstanding members in an attempt to better make the place more secure from rats, at some point you find risk. A committed dodgy bugger can bypass basic lines of security. Should we all give up/sell out our privacy details for such a small return? Whats a good members privacy worth? I think a basic rule of a minimum post count (say 100) should weed out 99.5% of the bad guys & not require the 'good guys' sell out on their privacy. At the end of the day its about benefitting the good guys.

So how do we weed out the people that buy a saw with the insurance and then make a BS claim knowing they could get there money back?
I don't know of any such cases, do you? The seller will be contacted if a dispute is opened by the buyer. The seller just had to provide proof the item was shipped. A tracking number is all.

I'm glad there is some safe guard in place then.
I was just think of this post from page 6 on this thread thinking that sumbags had you coming and going.

Not sure providing info would really accomplish anything. I get most of my income from rental properties and there are companies/individuals out there that openly advertise their ability to provide (for a fee) pay stubs, employment letters, 1099 forms, W-2 forms, income tax 1040 returns, and so forth. All these are to get a scammer into a lease agreement that they wouldn't qualify for. So someone handy with a computer can generate any kind of documents a person needs to pass muster but it doesn't give that person integrity and honesty. So the "be careful who you buy from" title of this thread is probably the best advice.

But how do You know for sure who is reputable?

Wasn't J_S considered reputable at some point?
I never had dealings with him, just giving an example.
This .
Over on the other channel I lost a solid $650 on a saw that I paid for via F&F.
It was quite the bummer since it was the 4th transaction we had done.
He also had various other purchases that guys had been happy with and I had even left a good word in some of his other ads. Once things took a turn for the worse I went back to his ads I had given a thumbs up in as well as the one for the saw he took me for, and another he still had some items for sale in and noted what had happened.
Not sure anyone would have seen it coming and I don't think he intended to rip me off. As far as I can tell he got himself in some trouble with the law, and most likely hocked the saw to bail himself out. I'm not making excuses, as that's when a man is shown for who he is, when the going gets tough. I'm just saying sometimes things happen and up to that point I thought he was a good guy.
I wish I could say that's the only deal I got taken on, but you win some you loose some.
I also was taken on a 660 via a CL deal. I paid via PayPal and paid the extra as I wanted to cover my tail, well he refunded my cash and said it was going to take to long to go thru PayPal that way so I sent the funds via F&F, you know the rest, the communication slowly dissipated and no saw. I had an address as well as a phone number, but as @fearofpavement said above all was fake.
Biggest bummer is both these deals happened within a 2 week period, it hurt pretty bad.
Thanks @Jon1212 for offering to help on the one over yonder.
Wisconsin is a big state.

How far are you from Wayland, MI 49348?

You need to have proof the transaction took place and the item was accepted or mailed. That is a specific case probably not as applicable to the folks that are selling chainsaws. I've honestly never heard one case where the buyer bought the insurance and he was still scammed out his product or money.
