Happy New Years guys.

Now that we've establish that the factory (and some of us) open dual ports a bit earlier in the intake side, how do you make your markings to establish you goals?

I've used a ring and thin sharpie and just cut to the line on the exhaust side and all the way through the line on the intake side. I've noted a thin sharpie line to be about 2*.

I can see a more exact way being to cut 2 different pieces of card stock to different degrees, and then creat a slope of the difference. The stock would have to be recurred and flipped side to side.

So, how do you do it?

Eyeball mostly. I use card stock or business cards to set the height. I then compare to the card stock to see if it's straight or not.

Any tricks on cutting the card stock, instead of multiple trial and errors?

I try to measure the ring through the exhaust port, and then cut the stock, but it can be frustrating.

I've taken a C-hair off of the card and changed timing by 4*.

It's amazing how little it takes.

Also, do you guys make studs for your saw bodies, or do you tighten the jug down each time?

I measure with calipers and check and then use math. Mark it out with the calipers. I've not seen one that changed that much in that little. I don't work on 50cc very often. Usually 71cc is my minimum size. Half the time I just hold the just down by hand when I'm checking quick. I pull the rings so no resistance.

I push a ring up the bore and mark with a sharpie 1° less than my mark , to allow for chamfering and sanding

That card trick is really precise though but ill still mark a degree less and go shy and also reinstall cylinder several times to work up to my mark

Those cards have ported about 10 saws there. I throw them in and grind. Might have took an hour for the last 7900 for all the grinding.

I push my ring up one degree lower, slide the caliper from sqish to bottom of ring, tighten caliper nut and mark the card with the caliper points.

What kind of caliper?

Mine won't fit in the bore. I usually port 44-48mm saws

I do have a depth mic

My digital dial calipers. Slide it to squish. Write that one down. Slide to exhaust port or transfers and log it. subtract what I want to raise and cut the card. I measure how far 10° right at exhaust opening on the piston. Works out pretty good. You can do it on the intake side for transfers as well. Mark 10° on the piston skirt and measure.
