I'm not sure if the OP is still watching this, but I'd like to chime in. MAKE SURE THE INNER SPOOL ISN'T IN BACKWARDS!!! We've sold hundreds of these heads and the only problems we see are from people putting the spool in upside down. If it is going in a straight-shaft trimmer (counter-clockwise rotation), the "L" stamped into the spool needs to be facing out during reassembly. If the "R" is facing out, it won't feed. What I'm seeing is that when I use trimmer line that is supposed to be a fast cutting line, it doesn't eject well from the Speed Feed head. Then I have to take it apart and feed it through again. It seems certain brands ( Echo Black Diamond, for example ) sort of sticks to itself in the spool because of all the sharp edges and won't eject when you smack the bump head. Thinking of getting a smoother line that doesn't have as many rough edges. Are any of you experiencing this? I know the Black Diamond cuts very well, but what I'm gaining in cutting time I'm losing in disassembling the head every time I use it. This is fresh line, too.
Also, running the line too short will feed more heat back into the head and weld the line more quickly. Maybe this was already covered--I didn't bother reading all the posts.
