My first job of 2019, crawled out of semi retirement this morning and felled, limbed and bucked up into 12 footers 7 nice sized white spruce out in nearby cottage country.
Building contractor who hired me ran his new Kubota tracked skid steer to pile the logs and push up the limbs and tops.
I'm a little out of shape running the 562 and 066 but was out of there in 2 hours with check in my pocket :)

Fairly large maple with a rotten ant infested base. Right over water spigot and leaning towards two barns full of stuff. I will pull out extra saws when I can drive right up to drop them off before moving my van out of any potential kill zone. I can fix a barn if something goes wrong, can't live without my work van. I also don't trust the china saw enough in a critical situation to not have the 394xp right there warmed up and ready. It always does a good job though, but being all chinese but the chain adjust, I know some of its parts have numbered days. I went up to drop the wide spreading branches so as to minimize damage while pulling it away through the canopy with the 5 to 1 dmm rpm shackles.

Poor little 200t got blocked out of the picture by the rope bag, but I was in a rush to get busy with rain moving into the area.

Dropped the ash around the corner while I was there. Simple cut and run, it was leaning the right direction. I love it when the hinge stays connected and they fall nice and slow just where they were intended to go. Minimizes collateral damage as it falls through the canopy. I am a tree lover as well as a tree cutter.

I continued my battle with the monster maple from last Saturday. I have to noodle it into 1/8ths just to be able to handle the pieces.

Saturday's more dead than not silver maple. Was trying to wait till I had some help, but also wanted to get it down before it died off any further. Alas! I was in the area, had saws, and the wind was blowing favorably to the west the direction I wanted it to go. Not something that happens often around here, so I went for it solo. Bonus points for it being mothers day and my friend being single mother of three. I did enlist her to 'man' the pull vehicle as it had a good amount of back lean. Something she wasn't so keen on doing, but I thought it would be a good experience for her. The trickiest part was snaking a rope over two good inline living crotches in that tangles mess and tied back down to the base. The big shot got awarded MVP for sure. Tossing by hand would have been tough. Was a long hard day, but I got it mostly chowed down to manageable size.

Some nice work in the last week. My wood work this past week was splitting maul and stacking so I'm a bit jealous. And it looks like I'm rained out for a couple days to start this week.

I need to get another ash or two in the box and then it will be time to get on the black locust to finish up for the year. Have a couple nice big ones right at the edge of the pasture where I can drive right up to pick them up. :)
